I just got my first pair of old fogie glasses and they're driving me nuts not to mention they're giving me a miserable headache.
They're reading, computer and distance glasses and the areas are so small for the computer and reading parts, that I can't even see the entire monitor without moving my head. This isn't practical for me since I'm on a computer a lot at work and I need to see the WHOLE monitor while I'm using it.
I also need to put paperwork on assets that are frequently higher than my head and with that tiny area at the very bottom of the glasses, I'd have to bend by head back to my spine to be able to see what I'm doing.
These concerns aside, how long does it take to get used to this crap? I have a very low frustration level and trying to find the sweet spot to see something is making me very cranky. And is it normal to get headaches with new glasses? I've never had this problem before.
Getting old is pissing me off.

I wear Varilux no line tri-focals that are transitions lens love them. Yes you have to get use to them but when you do it just a slight movement of the head up or down that goes to the next focal you will get the hang of it.

I had bi-focals but couldn't get on with them at all. Kept nodding like a donkey all day. At least the optician gave me a trial period to get used to them before an exchange. I now have a pair for distances and my wife's readers for the very small print on the sides of sauce jars. The rest in between is in focus without glasses

So... I went back and they were very nice about replacing the lenses... of course it probably didn't hurt that I spent an additional $200 (with 50% off!) on another pair. So I'm going to have reading/computer glasses and a separate pair for distance with that transitional lens stuff on it.
No wonder I couldn't see, this is how the lens is split up:
Not only is that a tiny area... I could only see an area about two inches high by about 6 inches wide when looking at my monitor... the peripheral vision is severely limited as well. I don't understand how this is considered adequate.

If I stare at one letter on the screen and don't let my eyes move, I can see a circle around one inch in diameter well enough to read the word. Outside of that one inch circle, to read a word I have to move my eye. To stop my eyes aching I move my head too, that way my eye muscles don't get overworked. It amazes me anyone can use a screen at all. Maybe I'm not explaining this clearly... Yeah, I have to move my eyes to see each word as usual, but with these glasses, it's more like looking through a pair of binoculars. The field of vision I'm used to is severely limited. I find it frustrating.
