I can't agree more. Why should taxpayers cover private debt? I guess in the end they will be forced to pay though.

Right on Iceland!! Now that is a true democracy..
I wish they would have a referendum here in Ireland. Why the hell should we the tax payers be bailing out those who took financial gamble trying to get rich?

I think if you took a referendum all over europe we would all vote no. I think all those politivians who thought de-regulating the banks a good idea as well as all the senior bankers should have all their assets sequestrated - as a more civilised alternative to being hung up by their balls.

I hear ya, it is sickening.. we have these feckers who sold off this country (and others) for their own personal wealth, and now want us to bail them out.. they should be charged with treason and locked up.

The court case will be interesting. Not really looked at the details, but I don't see how the taxpayers of iceland are responsible for the debt of a failed private bank. I also don't think the british taxpayer should have compensated those who invested in a bank without the protection of the financial services compensation scheme - It's their own fault. Come to that once we nationalised the banks all the existing directors should have been sacked for being incompetent. Gordie boy should be in the dock as well but I suppose gross stupidity isn't a crime.
