Did You See A Cop?

Post by Lady J »

I was paying bills the other night and came across one for a speeding ticket I got. I was clocked at doing 42 in a 35 mile zone. OK, so I got a speeding ticket but I didn't even see a cop! They have cameras set up now that clock you, take a photo of your car and license plate and then send you the ticket via mail. You would think if they were going to sock it to you they would at least have the common curtsy to do it in person. Dealing face to face, my odds are better of getting out of it. .... It's hard to flirt with a camera especially when you don't even know your picture is being taken.

A couple of years ago, I worked for a Driving School company and I taught the driving improvement classes. Those fun classes that people come to when they have too many points on their license and they have to sit in class for 8 hours to receive points to avoid a ticket, fines or insurance rates going up.

Okay, my point to all this is that I had some fun times listening to the reasons why people had to take the class...but the one that pertains to this subject (I will eventually get to the point) is the young men that had to come to my class because they received a ticket for the passenger not having his seat belt on. The young man in the passenger seat was too large for the seatbelt and couldn't get it around him. The driver and passenger had to come to my class and they were both mailed their tickets for this offense in the mail.

I don't think flirting woulda worked for them...but maybe a little compassion?

Yes, we have them here. I was done at 06:45 on an empty town bypass by a pair of policemen hiding down a farm track pointing the speed camera out through the hedge. It is nothing to do with safety, it was pure revenue gathering.

As you can tell, I was not best pleased :-(

Just acquired three points and a sixty pound fine passing a camera I knew was there and constantly drive past. I think you should get credit for all the times you remember it is there.

Seven miles an hour over the speed limit isn't speeding, they should be ashamed of themselves. (God, I hope they don't put cameras up in my area!)

Ten percent plus two MPH is the (unwritten) rule over here - below that and they're unlikely to prosecute although it's not unknown if the plod's had a bad day.

ok, Lady, it's obvious you have no sense of humor so I'll end in wishing you well with your life.

I hope at some point you can begin to laugh as opposed to sucking the blood out of what you're not used to, especially to people that would do anything for a complete stranger.

I've gotta agree with Lady J, that movie clip wasn't funny or really appropriate for the subject of this thread. I guess that means I don't have a sense of humor and I suck the blood out of what I'm not used to as well. C'est la vie.

I'm actually a really really nice secure guy and I talk to people all day every day! Sure I wind you up but I mean nothing ugly in it. Life is waaaaaaaay too short you know!

If anyone's insecure, it would be the person that had to include "people that would do anything for a complete stranger". He seems to be concerned that even though he crapped in Lady J's thread and told her that she sucks "the blood out of what you're not used to", that we all should know what a kind and caring person he is. In other words, don't judge him by his actions, just take his word for it. He's a hell of a guy. With a great sense of humor.

Sorry for beating a dead horse but let me try to explain. Imagine me being an insulting twat (hard to do, I'm sure) and upsetting a member here and my reply was that I donate generously to charities, I'm kind to animals and I've never been rude to wait staff. On top of that, it's the other person's fault for being upset because they suck the blood out of things they don't understand and they obviously don't have a sense of humor.

If that actually works, then I wish I had tried it years ago.

If anyone pees me off I ignore them........at least till I know em better.....I think that shows maturity and feeling for others in the thread........but....... what do I know ?

Anyway.............back on topic.

I was delegated to open my step daughters letter cos she's away at Uni.

How about a ticket for doing 35 in a 30 zone......that cannot be right surely ?

Depends where it was perhaps It's a bit more serious than doing 80 on a motorway say. As one traffic cop acquaintance explained it to me if you are going so fast that you don't notice the yellow police car with the policeman wearing a fluorescent jacket pointing a camera at you in enough time to slow down so you don't get caught over the limit you really are going too fast as well as not paying attention and deserve everything you get. Personally I'd like to see more traffic cars on the motorways doing those arseholes on mobile phones and the ones tailgating.

To my mind the standard of driving fell drastically in this country when the government allowed the police to keep the income from the gatsos. All of the police effort was put into speed cameras to the extent that they took the patrol cars off the road which meant that the most important aspects of safe driving were no longer policed. Who is out checking for tailgating, undertaking, use of mobiles, drink driving, etc because the gatsos certainly don't.

I met photo fear today. I ran a red light by camera... if there was one there... but here's my defense if I get a ticket in the mail: I was rounding a corner which the traffic people admit is blind, as they ran a light pole up on an angle for us poor blinded saps to see. I watched that light stay green as I putted up in my faithful Charlie and gauged my point of no return for the brake pedal. I passed that point right as the light turned yellow. Round the corner a bloke in a pickup truck, far outsizing my Charlie, decided he'd passed his point as well and had to make his left turn right in front of me. As I was not speeding I was able to slow to avoid a crash. As a result of avoiding a crash the light was red when I finished progressing through the intersection. So... if I get me one of them mail processed traffic tickets I'll book a day off work to fight it.
