We all have been ill and often search the internet to self-diagnose our symptoms. Your Doctor may tell you one thing but on the internet you found 316 others that could be why you have this problem. Your mind starts to wander and making the worst of things. Next there are tests to determine if you have the sickness that you think or feel you have.
Has this ever happened to you?
Don’t you hate the waiting to find out if you will live or die?

I try to avoid Dr Google but I'm not always successful
I wonder why we tend to think the worst when we're ill? Maybe because we all know we are going to die one day and we don't know when...so this particular illness may be it

Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answers...Rainer Maria Rilke

I do it all the time but I haven't gotten too hypochondriacal about it yet. I figured out I had low thyroid from searching symptoms and I felt rather pleased with myself when my doctor confirmed it.

The only time I've looked for an online medical diagnosis was last year when I swallowed a cherry pit. I didn't mean to but it went down my throat of its own willful accord. I had bought some fresh cherries which I love and had just eaten the first one, went to take the pit out of my mouth and alas, it went in the other direction. I googled it and was reassured to find that a horrible and excruciating death was not imminent, or at least not from the cherry pit, and that as the saying goes "this too shall pass". Thank God it wasn't a peach or apricot stone! :-3 :yh_wink
I think it's primarily fear that makes us assume the worst when it comes to our own health. It's so easy to comfort others in a similar situation but we tend not to comfort ourselves as much. We're looking for worst case ... anything less than that we can cope with!

I had a step-father very briefly when I was about five that used to tell me that swallowing watermelon seeds would result in vines growing out of my nose and mouth. To this day, I hate horror movies that have killer ivy. Yes, there are movies with killer ivy in them, Hammer was a big one for that.

I remember as children we generally accepted the idea that if we swallowed chewing gum, it would remain in our stomachs forever. There were always one or two scoffers among us but clearly they lived on the dangerous side ... I had my moments of doubt but I wasn't willing to take a chance!
I did find out online that I would have to swallow around 50 cherry pits in a short period of time to do myself any harm. Something to do with tannin in them!

I have a shitty doctor.. so then yes I do google a lot of things.. but i don't assume the worst.
I know I have Hypoglycaemia (with a little help of dr google and my mum :wah:).. the only reason i googled it was because of my shitty doctor.. I went in for a blood test.. was not aloud any food after 22.00, bloodtest was at about 10 am.. I told him I couldn't stay that long without food! On the way to the hospital i had a hypo, ate stack of choc biccies that were in my bag (always have food with me). Told the vampire lady at hospital what happend, she ignored me and took my blood sample.
The result came back at 3 and a little bit (should be between 4 and about 8 i think) yet he said it's normal.. Even after i told him i had 5-6 choc biccies before that! so yes i google symptoms because of my shitty doctor.
