The Law, by Frederic Bastiat

I am streaming the most recent presidential debate. Ron Paul was asked for the name of one book that everyone should read. This is it. I haven't read it, but it's only 75 pages or so.

The AGs seemed hostile towards Paul in that debate.

He wasn't trained all through his post-secondary career that the Constitution is a set of philosophical obstacles to be gotten around and malleable rules to be "reinterpreted" to fit your purposes. The AGs (and most legislators) were.

Yup. Another friend showed me this link to the audiobook, for those who like to listen while driving and texting. :yh_youkid

I haven't read it and I will out of curiosity. The thing that always strokes me about libertarians is they seem to be stuck sometime in the mid 1850's and have missed 100+ years of political philosophy and social reform. They're in a time warp of a world that doesnt exist any more and only did if you happened to be rich enough to live life as you please. It's a utopian way of looking at things that doesn't really work in the real world. His view of what socialism is (got that far) is one from the mid 19th century and in no way reflects what it went on to become, he was writing at a time when marx was just propounding his theories - which were wrong as history shows us. Libertarianism has become a peculiarly American phenomenon although there is a UK libertarian party - it's views on healthcare alone put it on the loony right of the political spectrum although I do believe it has dozens of members. (not being facetious there by the way)
