judge spares thug tag as it would disrupt his celebrations the AA grumpy column

Post by the grumps »

hello and welcome back to grumpy towers for another festive story with all the trimmings.

the judge in this story must also have been in a festive mood as lucky yob

corey brown gets an early xmas present.

A SOFT judge was blasted yesterday after he spared a young thug from being electronically tagged so he could enjoy his 21st birthday — and go out over CHRISTMAS.

Corey Brown, 21, was originally sentenced to 36 weeks suspended for two years and ordered to do 150 hours unpaid work after he admitted handling stolen goods.

But he was hauled back before the court after repeatedly breaching the probation order by failing to turn up for the unpaid work three times.

Recorder David Hall stunned lawyers on Monday when he agreed to let Brown OFF a curfew punishment because it would interfere with his 21st birthday celebrations.

He also refused to order Brown be fitted with an electronic tag as he did not want to be "a tyrant" before Christmas.

Recorder Hall said: "It would be a tyrant who tagged someone on their 21st birthday and at Christmas.

"I have seen a progress report, which is very positive and favourable and a letter from his tutor.

"The order started well and then went off the rails for a while, but it is now even better than before."

Brown admitted handling stolen goods at Warwick Crown Court in March after he was caught with the keys to a £30,000 Lexus which had been nicked from a 70-year-old man.

The top-of-the-range motor was used in a series of raids on shops and Brown was caught hiding the keys in his bedroom at his home in Bedworth, Warwicks.

Recorder Hall agreed to go easy on Brown after hearing an electronic tag which alerts police if offenders leave their homes would disrupt his social life.

He even asked Brown, who sat smirking throughout the hearing: "If I give you seven more hours to do, and you keep out of trouble, is that a fair deal?"

Brown nodded his agreement and he was allowed to leave the courtroom.

A court insider said: "It was obvious the judge was feeling warm-hearted in the run-up to Christmas but it did leave the solicitors a little surprised considering the defendant's record."

Victims' groups yesterday condemned Mr Hall, saying his refusal to give Brown an electronic tag "undermined confidence in the justice system."

Javed Khan, Chief Executive of Victim Support, said: "Tough community sentences can work in stopping reoffending, but there need to be consequences if offenders repeatedly break them.

"If that means disrupting a criminal's enjoyment of the festive season then so be it, otherwise decisions like these could undermine victims' confidence in the justice system."

AAG

yet another judicial dinosaur has another thug leaving court putting two fingers up to justice.

why wasnt this toerag spending xmas day slopping out in his local nick instead of being able to roam freely with a bottle of vk or a can in his hand

it makes me mad that this scumbag was smirking throughout the hearing.

and how come he got hours anyway with such a diabolical record and crime shouldnt he have been locked up in the first place ?

theres no place for these soft judges in our courts its time like the dinosaurs they are to become extintict.
