Someone tried to explain "Steampunk" to me, with something about "Victorian Postmodern"

It seems the idea is to come up with Victorian era style for modern applications of technology, and modern applications of Victorian style in clothing and and accessories.

Seems to be something like a cross between The Borg and the Gay Nineties.

I was going to say, I thought it had its origins in science fiction. I don't really follow that sub-genre so I wasn't sure till I saw Lady J's link. Thanks for that.

It's all really quite interesting. I was staying at a Hotel in the SF Bay area, for work, and they had a convention of SteamPunk folks there.

I found it fascinating the gadgets they came up with.
