For four days of blissfull racing.

I am not going to wax lyrical here. The purpose of this thread Is merely to record by bets for the four days so that I return suitably victorious or embarrassed.

I have serious bets and then I have some fun bets.

I will just mention that re: The Gold Cup on Friday, trainer David Pipe Is annoying the heck out of myself and racing chums. Yeah yeah yeah we all understand the tactics and the why's and where-fore's but getting confirmation for Grand Crus has been like nailing milk to a wall.

The up-shot Is.... After his Injury In training, Kauto Star has been declared 95% on to run the Gold Cup after he has Improved In training and worked out at the Wincanton course yesterday. David Pipe however, Is waiting and waiting on Nicholl's confirmation for Kauto before deciding which race Grand Crus will run. It's simple, If Kauto Is declared fit and a runner, Pipe does not want the unbeaten novice to go up against him and will go for the safer option of the RSA Chase. Great shame.

So........

Day One

The Arkle

Al Ferof Win

R/V F/C.. Al Ferof/ Sprinter Sacre

Hold On Julio... win

Gosh what a four days ??? !!!!!

5 dead horses.

7 Jockeys banned for over use of the whip.

French photographer stretchered to hospital.

Racehorse owner Charlie Brooks arrested on day one re: the phone hacking scandal.

Big, Big Controversy over The Queen Mother Chase after one of the runners crashed through the barriers.

Visits from Camilla, Princess Anne and Zara Phillips.

Kauto Star pulled up In the Gold Cup.

Big Bucks made racing history.

Quevega made racing history.

Financially..... I am far better.

It looked dodgy when my biggest Investment Grand Crus failed In the RSA. It's very rare I make excuses for my horses but there was obviously something very out of sorts with the horse considering he trounced the winner Bobsworth last season. Apparently, his connections also agree that there was a problem with him on the day.

With this loss, I upped the anti on the day for Big Bucks and recouped my losses although In the final stages, things were pretty scary.

But.... the defining moment was the winning tricast on day two. I was so sure of that combination In the first three, I betted big and was paid big. However, the race caused a huge controversy after Wishful Thinking fell, crashed through the barriers and took out the French photographer:

You know, after looking at the naps tipped by the proffessionals, I am feeling pretty smug. Six winners and 11 placed... I did better than the nappers who get paid for their predictions for newspapers. Seven winners actually because I had a late bet on the day on Rock On Ruby

Poor baby Kauto Stone crashed to the turf at the first fence In the RSA but at just 6 years old, he's still very Inexperienced and a novice at the Cheltenham course. It was rather poignant seeing him In the parade ring absolutely dwarfed by the big guns. I still expect great things from him In the future.

Racehorse owner Clive Smith originally went to France to bid on a horse called Garde Champetre only to be out bidded by multi millionaire J.P. McManus. Smith was told there was another one up for sale that he might be Interested In called 'L'Extraterrestre'. Smith bought the horse, brought him back to England and re-named him Kauto Star....... the rest Is history.

Garde Champetre went on to become a champion of the Cross Country Hurdles and very sadly Is was Garde Champetre who was one of the 5 horses who lost their lives at the festival..... A very sad day Indeed..... He will be missed along with Scotsirish another good horse.

We now know that Kauto Star was pulled up at the 9 th fence after Ruby Walsh felt him feel pain over the water jump. That is testament to a brilliant jockey who knew his mount like the back of his hand. Yes we were dissapointed but Kauto was cheered by the masses as he entered the parade ring, cheered out onto the track, cheered when pulled up and cheered all the way back to his box stall. I haven't seen that since the 70's and Red Rum at Aintree.

Having been out of broadband since Thursday evening I'd heard that Kauto Star had not won but that's it. Sad to hear that he had to be pulled.

I guess they'll retire him now?

I would think so Bryn. The pain over the water jump was put down to him just not being as fit as they thought after the fall In training. Lessons need to be learned from Garde Champetre at the festival who at 13 years old, broke down and had to be euthanised during the Cross Country Hurdle.

All credit to Ruby Walsh for pulling him up as soon as he sensed all was not well with Kauto. We were dissapointed of course but his fans wanted him home In one piece first and fore-most.
