Surreal moments....

Post by Oscar Namechange »

Had some of Peter's pals around tonight for a Good Friday roast and Yes, Betty, the Yorkshire's rose :wah: Phew....

Any way, we got round to talking about surreal moments In our lives... the sort of thing you see that you shouldn't be seeing.

I have two... but I'll relate the first and then I hope you'll all have some stories to tell.

My first was In my early twenties. I was asked by some local travellers ( the sort who didn't travel ) If I'd care for their horses while they went on holiday.

I lived In a seaside town with a busy High Street just along the coast from Brighton at the time.

My friend and I went and cared for the horses but there were two of them that were real gentle old boys.

My pal and I were going to ride them out but decided the horses may enjoy a dip In the sea given the heat...

We got them onto the beach and they did Indeed love being shoulder deep In the sea and didn't really want to come out...

On the way back, we exited the bridge Into the busy High Street and I told my pal that I'd just pop Into Ladbrooke's as we were there to get my wages.

Nobody really took much notice of the horses In the High Street but finding no-where to tether them outside, we thought 'what the heck, It's a betting office'....

There must have been about 15 old duffers In there listening to a horse racing commentary and In walks two horses Into the middle of the shop.

The look of WTF on their faces will stay with me forever.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them. R.L. Binyon
