Spot is conspicuous by his absence, so adopting a Spot like stance I must question some of those 'claims'

Are they merely American type boasts ? (Remember I am in Spot mode)

Highest poverty rate ?

Worst gender equality ?

Shortest life expectancy at birth ?

Unless of course you have better stats.

Highest infant mortality rate ?

Go for the middle one...I was trying to be funny...but my sense of humour just isn't funny any more (to quote a line from a Kate Bush song). I used to find the same with my Dad as he was getting older...bless him, he really thought he was being amusing and he just wasn't.

I was going to tear some of the claims apart until I saw the small print along the flagpole - "Among OECD countries". Even so I suspect the murder rate in, for example, Mexico, is higher than that of the US - quite a few of those "worst" may well apply to Mexico rather than the US. But then, given the rules the US has set for Mexico to follow, perhaps that's not surprising.

A major step toward social justice in North America might be the union of the 31 states of Mexico into the USA. I wonder how that might be achieved.

By including Canada in the mix and calling it the United States of North America?

No, that would be an example of Anschluss. Incorporating Mexico would be an act of union.

I'd stand by what I wrote though. I wrote "quite a few of those "worst" may well apply to Mexico rather than the US. But then, given the rules the US has set for Mexico to follow, perhaps that's not surprising". One of the main debilitating rules set at the instigation of the US is the war on drugs, for example.

Take a pretend notional society in which all drugs can be traded legally and then put a proposition forward that trading drugs will henceforth be a crime. Can you imagine any crime syndicate not licking its collective lips and voting yes, do it, bring it on, we'll be ten times stronger and wealthier as a result?

That's what happened to Mexico and all those other Central American drug cartel countries. They didn't do it to themselves. The entire pressure to criminalize has always been from the USA.

I'm not convinced that the UK ever begged to join but there is a definite difference.

Technically I suppose Quiet PC up in Yorkshire but they'd charge an arm and a thingie. I bet there's as much benefit in gluing expanded polystyrene sheets to the insides and it's simpler to cut.

No, it's the only word I know which means what I intended - an annexation without the consent of the population at large, implemented by the government of the day through fear of refusing. What word means that other than Anschluss? There's lots of technical terms used in English which are taken directly from other languages, quite often German. Zeitgeist is difficult to paraphrase, for example. Joie de vivre is another.

I've no doubt the US will annexe Canada in just that way during my lifetime. I bet there's some nervous Canadians with similar forebodings too.

*Deep breath*

It was a pun, concerning the use of a German word and Germany subsequently becoming the dominant power within the EU, following it's earlier unsuccessful foray. (Foray= Middle English forrayen, from Anglo-French forreyer, foreer, probably back-formation from *forrier, *forreour forager, raider, from fuerre, foer provender)
