What should I do with my seedlings? I'm going on a 1 week vacation starting tomorrow they have not been remotely hardened (never outside) they are in a self-watering container tho --the lights are set to be on 6a to 10p
Last year I let my uncle watch them and he had *very* specific directions managed to kill 2 flats and 2 crates (had waterbottles in the crates) then he didn't offer even a penny compensation --it ended up becoming a very terrible year and I don't want a repeat
Should I have a dome top on or off? (there's also fig cuttings in with the seedlings some are really taking off outhers I honestly don't know if there alive or not anymore)
Should I worry at all about my indoor plants? (there's a goji that's got no drainage and about 4 aloe pots --all aloe Vera--)
We have cats but as long as I've been smart about where I put stuff they haven't messed with anything so I'm not to worried about them getting at anything (angel may get corious but I don't think she will do any damage and she knows I care about them)

Bugger the hardening, set them out this evening[1] and put a groundsheet over the plot until next weekend.
The only plants capable of surviving a week indoors untended are cacti and the aspidistra[2], you can write off your limp-wrist pansy equivalents.
[1] - unless you're in Inverness in which case growing plants to begin with is a bit misguided.
[2] - and, thinking about it, cheeseplants.

I'm wisconsin zone 5 I don't have any ground/sheet cover and I'm a container gardener
Like I said I'm not too worried about the cats (mines more likely to attack I've seen her rub/nibble on pepper plants but never damage too greatly and if I ask her nicely to stop --I don't like yelling at her-- she will)
There's the figs some Basil's pineapple sage (4 true leaves all pretty small) a mint or 2 tomatoes peppers and such (I think lol) there all marked to what they are and I'm thinking some ill have some extras of come planting time (early June in my mind)

The mistake is entirely mine, I saw your reference to pennies and assumed you had to be British. How that particular idiom survived two centuries of rebellion I've no idea.

The mere fact he/she used the word ' Vacation' and not holiday tends to be a bit of a clue that he/she Is on the other side of the Atlantic....

You can bury a terracotta pot and use that as a drip waterer. Block the hole with bath sealant, sink the pot in the ground, fill it with water and cover it. The water seeps out slowly and keeps your seedlings alive.
If you don't have space for this, you can use big fizzy drinks bottles filled with water, with a hole pierced in the base, placed strategically around your seedlings. You can also buy specially designed spikes which fit on the bottles and go in the ground.
Mulch............ use newspaper If you can't lay your hands on anything else.
Consider shade netting which don't like full sun or cold all the time. You can use old net curtains etc.

But she actually says she is from Wisconsin--Zone 5, which isn't a precise location within the state, but conditions to grow it seems.

Milwaukee area actually --and I don't get the penny reference? My point was that the person could have done something made some effort to compensate me make it up to me for killing all those plants (some that were even gonna be given away!)
And yes lol I'm a female --the seed tray itself is self-watering (the burpee one) it claims to water for up to 7 days and if there a little dry when I get home that's ok as they will likely need a little dryness for good roots --the goji has sandy top soil (water will run right thru) and no drainage holes so if I did something like add a watering thing lol if be worried about too much water in the pot --the aloes I suspect should be fine
Seeing as the seedlings are literally in one tray with 72 in that flat I dont think I have the space to play with tons of pots (and there in my room) tho I'd eventually like to move the figs to better pots and keep them inside
