Wherever you fit in, whether you believe in anything or not, I wish you the joy and hope that is symbolised by the Christian Christmas tradition as well as the eager expectancy of renewal that is symbolised by the arrival of a New Year.

Most do. All monotheist did was hijack the pagan festival because they couldn't stop people celebrating - and try they did even now there are campaigns to remind people the "true" meaning of christmas. Don't know if you've seen the poster campaign featuring the doll from the chucky movies - well it looks like it.
I think there is something about the change in season with the days getting longer that touches the primitive in all of us and makes us want to celebrate.
