The Time Has Come The Chosen Said …

Post by jones jones »

To talk of many things, of shoes and ships and sealing wax

Of cabbages and kings …

(With no apologies to Charles Ludwidge Dodgson aka Lewis Carroll as his work is no longer under copywrite. Although some earthlings believe he was like a “Merve the Swerve” cos he liked to photograph young girls in the nude, there is no evidence that he was indeed a paedophile.)

Took a sabbatical for personal reasons but I missed you guys so much that I simply had to come back, if only for a shortish period.

This has been quite a month on planet earth one way or another. For a start, a non-European …(Is that word/phrase still allowed to be used?), Bishop of Rome has been elected by a bunch of guys wearing dresses and yarmulkes who are allowed to have a puff only if it’s white smoke.

I ask the question because political correctness aka PC seems to have reached new heights of absurdity. Apparently the phrase “as cheap as chips” is very bad form and “as inexpensive as fried potatoes” is now in and what about BC, formerly meaning “before Christ” which has now been replaced with BCE which means “before common era.” WTF!

Personally being an atheist I couldn’t give a flying flamingo that BC had been replaced by BCE. I mean they, and who the hell are they anyway, could have changed it to BBC for all I care. Hey, 1.2 billion Catholics have a new Il Papa. Like I said a non-European, to wit or is it whit, an Argentinean formerly known as Jorge Mario Bergoglio. Anyone know if the English Cardinals voted for him? Personally I believe that Cardinal Bergoglio was elected to make up for Argentina losing the referendum on the Malvinas sovereignty. What was it? 1513 votes to 3 with 3 blanks? My guess is that it was actually 1519 to zip, but who is gonna believe a 100% vote? Well outside of Africa, Cuba & North Korea that is.

And breaking news! What a week for Italy … I mean not only a new Pope but a

rugby victory for the Azzurri over Ireland and on the very eve of St. Patricks day too!

And oh, England my England! What about that game at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff? “An 80 minutes which will go down in Welsh rugby folklore!” according to Graham Price of Wales Online! I have to say that I only watched the first few minutes of the game, but when “Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau” was sung by the crowd before the start, cold shivers ran up and down my spine! A rampant Wales stole the Six Nations from England's grasp, thrashing its old rival 30-3 to retain the title and deny the long-time tournament leader a Grand Slam. Bryn oh Bryn!!

Talking of leaders, a new one by name of Xi Jinping has been elected President of China. Guess his daughter, Xi Mingze, who enrolled as a freshman at Harvard University in 2010 must be very proud of her old man. Apparently she’s there under a pseudonym … wonder what she’s called? Maybe “Eleven Minxy?” Xi Mingze … get it?

Talking of eleven, I also watched the Toffees beat Manchester City two zip. I speak of course of Everton, the best thing to come out of Liverpool since John Winston Lennon MBE, aka John Ono Lennon MBE. One gripe I have about football/soccer is the fact that in terms of the use of technology, it lags way behind the rest of 21st century sport in general. I mean how many times do you see a player diving in order to get a penalty, or worse still get a player in the opposing team sent off? Referees and their assistants cannot and will not ever be as fit as Premiership footballers, which means that they will always be a yard/metre behind play. So how can they judge an offside and a dive? They cannot … end of story. So for BCE’s sake guys, start using technology!

And another thing, I always thought that when players like slid along the turf after scoring a goal, they were able to do so because of the rain and dew. However I now believe that they slide along all the spittle on the grass from players who are continually spitting.

So what about The Democratic (what a larf) People’s Republic of Korea aka North Korea having the chutzpah to threaten to nuke Washington? I mean who does this chubby little Kim Jong-Un think he is? He sure is a Jong-Un (young ‘un) so will someone please tell him to get a better hairdresser for a start and then shut up before he gets hurt.

And finally in closing, yesterday was ten years to the day that Rachel Corrie was killed by an Israel Defense Force armoured bulldozer in Rafah in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. Google her story … I beg you.

Until we meet again ... Or as they say in Wales …
