watch out for the elf n safety jobsworths the AA grumpy column

Post by the grumps »

hello and welcome to weird and wacky world of the AA grumpy column

i just had to laugh at this the nanny state elf n safety jobsworths strike again

SCHOOL chiefs in Essex got in a flap over flapjacks and BANNED the triangular treats after one was thrown in a food fight

the upshot was that a child recieved a sore eye and was sent home from school for the day

and now triangular flapjacks are off the menu to be replaced by rectangular flapjacks

but the lefty Looniness doesnt end there read on .....

other barmy rulings by jobsworths.

Pavement signs a death trap for shoppers

LONDON Mayor Boris Johnson was this month challenged to back up his attacks on “namby pamby health and safety by allowing businesses to keep pavement advertising signs.

Transport For London has launched a clampdown on the A-shaped fold-up boards as part of a zero-tolerance approach to pavement obstructions.

Even pubs, cafes and restaurants which are allowed to put tables and chairs outside on the pavement are not allowed to put up the menu boards they regularly use to drum up passing business.

Shadow Business Secretary Chuka Umunna, Labour MP for Streatham, said the ruling seemed ridiculous.

Bus bureaucracy

Rosanna Proudlock,s Barmy bus ban left her stranded 12 miles from her home

A BUS driver refused to let disabled Rosanna Proudlock on board — because he said she didn’t have a certificate to show she was licensed to drive up the disabled access ramp.

Multiple sclerosis sufferer Mrs Proudlock, 55, who uses her mobility scooter to visit her nearest MS centre, used the low-floor Stagecoach service two or three times a week. She was humiliated by being turned away and was left stranded in Inverness — 12 miles from her home at Avoch on the Black Isle.

She had to fork out £20 for a taxi to get home.

Stagecoach later apologised, confirmed there was no requirement for disabled passengers to do “ramp training and reimbursed her taxi fare.

Tag game danger to kids

Queensbridge Primary School in Hackney banned kids' game, tag

SCHOOL chiefs banned kids from playing tag, saying it’s “too rough.

The 420 pupils at Queensbridge Primary School in Hackney, east London, have been told to stop chasing each other round the playground in the game, which has been around for 2,000 years.

Dad Lionel Hives said: “It’s a game that’s played in playgrounds up and down the country.

“We should be encouraging exercise, not curtailing it.

Headteacher Sarah Bailey confirmed last week that tag had been banned because some older children “played it too roughly.

The pupils have been told the ban might be lifted if they promise to play more carefully.

Pea counting at care home

STAFF at a care home were ordered to count the number of peas elderly residents ate after a weight-loss scare.

A Care Quality Commission inspection reported standards at the Laburnum Lodge care home in Ely, Cambs, were below expectations when all 20 residents were found to have lost exactly 13 per cent of their body weight.

A set of faulty weighing scales explained the issue but Cambridgeshire County Council still instructed staff to carefully weigh all the food they served to residents.

As a result, everything on their plates was carefully measured, right down to the number of peas, carrots, potatoes and even spoonfuls of gravy — and the amount of food left on plates was also measured to work out how much each resident had eaten.

The home had to carry out the instructions for three weeks until a nutritionist visited and said they were happy with the food being fed to residents.

A Care Quality Commission spokesman insisted two weeks ago: “Our inspectors will return in the near future and if we find that the required progress is not made we won’t hesitate to use our legal powers to protect the people who use this service.

Sex survey before grass cut

ELDERLY residents who wanted their grass cut were stunned to be asked about their religion, race and even their sex lives.

Renewal forms under Falkirk council’s Garden Aid scheme were sent out at the end of February.

They asked pensioners their ethnic origin, whether they were from one of the accession states which joined the EU in 2004 and about their sexual orientation.

Officials claimed they were required to ask the questions under the Equality Act 2010 but councillor Gerry Goldie said: “I have never heard such lunacy. It’s George Orwell’s 1984 revisited.

The letters were withdrawn and a new form sent out with an apology.
