Retro Cell Phones

Do you think there's a market for them? Imagine having a phone that you can leave at the house and check the voicemail when you get home!

I would imagine the dial would be replaced with buttons and maybe a display screen.

I for one would be more than happy If cell phones were eliminated.... I loathe them...

I loathe the way people use them... stopping in the street to shout Into them because they believe they have such an important life that passers by need to know their conversation.

I have a very very basic cell phone with no Apps. It makes calls and that Is all I need...even then, I rarely use It.

My husband said to me a few nights ago ' do you realise you have 90 missed calls'? ..... Yeah AND ????

Well aren't you at least going to check them ?

I'm stuck in the middle really. I remember the first time I had a mobile back in 1995 ( I still have that phone ). My boss phoned me when I had left site early and when I answered, the tannoy announced very loudly, the imminent arrival of my train.

They are irritating, antisocial and invasive but they are essential at times for work. I couldnt afford the wait untill I got home or to an office to retrieve calls, fax (remember them ? ) e-mails. Manyana has been ditched for a NOW ! mentality.

I love the retro phones but to be honest our domestic phone line gets used so little nowadays, I use it most to shout at the nuisance cold callers, the survey people, double glazing, PPI and debt and my favourites, the "You have a virus on your computer......."

Get on The Telephone Preference List... stops all those cold calls dead.... If you do get one you can tell them If they ever ring you again they can be fined heavilly....

Then there's those people who can't talk to you looking at you but checking their phone every few seconds....

Here's something from an earlier thread:

I have owned a cell phone since back in the day (1986) when we called

them CAR phones. In that time, I can probably count on the fingers of

both hands the times I've used it. They were for more 'urgent' calls,

the time I hit a deer (no I wasn't on it before the hit!) the couple

of times someone was waiting for me at home, I was tied up in a

massive traffic jam and didn't want them to worry.

Newer drivers have no business using them anyway, and they really

weren't made (IMNSHO) for long drawn out half hour conversations

or looking down to text.

I want to add, cell phones are so inexpensive these days, that I

think that's part of why they are used/abused. When I first got mine,

it was (if memory serves) $25 or so a month, and then NINETY CENTS

a minute peak hours (basically business hours) and twenty cents

off-peak, nights and weekends. If you traveled outside your service

area, you paid an additional $1 a day "roam" fee. Plus, the dang thing

cost me about $1300 to purchase, and I had to drive about 40 mins.

I use my phone to listen to pandora at work and shut it off otherwise. I hate talking on the phone and I seldom text. Anyone that knows me just sends an email or uses facebook.

I have several rotary phones up & running in my home. I collect vintage phones

I have a cell phone just for traveling/emergency purpose - I never use it for daily business- hate it.

I'm sure there's several messages on it - never look - don't care - hate it.

I figure that if you own one of those forty year old original cell phones that came in weighing at 2kg, cost nearly $4000.00 and had a battery life of 20 minutes, then it will be worth something today.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant a modern cell phone that looked like an old fashioned land line.

I am sure there is. My sister had a antique style phone

Made me appreciate my regular rotary phone.

That applies, at best, to cold calling companies in this country - there is nothing you can do to stop overseas call centres.

I had HD cable hooked up yesterday and the man told me that he installed a land telephone line as well, for the data streaming I suppose. I thought, "I have an old phone in the storage closet, wonder if I can hook it up now?" I'm going to try tonight.

I have a phone like that - as I stated I collect phones that's a cane phone

Saint - your trimline pictured in your reply should work with the to date plug in

it's really not all that old but still collectable

of course I have some like that too.

I like the fact the old rotary phones really ring - I can be out of the house gardening etc. and still hear a power distinctive ring.

Saint - let me know - it should work.
