A BRITISH grandmother has lost an appeal against her death sentence in Bali for drug trafficking.
Lindsay , 56, had been sentenced to death by firing squad after being convicted of smuggling £1.6 million worth of cocaine into the Indonesian island.
Sandiford, who claims she was coerced into smuggling the class A drug, was arrested after a flight from Thailand in May 2012 and accused of being at the centre of a drugs ring.
Following her conviction, the prosecution recommended 15 years imprisonment but a panel of judges later sentenced Sandiford to death by firing squad.
The Foreign Office, which has repeatedly made representations to the Indonesian government about the case, today expressed its disappointment in the ruling.
It was announced today that a court in Bali last week upheld the death sentence against Sandiford, from Cheltenham, Glos, after she lodged an appeal against the decision.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are disappointed to hear that Lindsay Sandiford’s appeal has been refused by the High Court in Bail.
“The UK strongly opposes the death penalty and has repeatedly made representations to the Indonesian government on this matter.
“We will continue to provide consular assistance at this difficult time.
Sandiford was arrested last May when 3.8kg of cocaine were discovered in her luggage at Bali’s airport.
The Foreign Office has said it will 'continue to provide consular assistance'
She previously told the court that she only became involved in the smuggling because “the lives of my children were in danger.
Four other defendants, including three Britons and an Indian national, were sentenced to jail terms ranging from one to six years.
Sandiford, originally from Redcar, Teesside, has 14 days to appeal to the national Supreme Court.

Your "no doubt" seems mistaken - maybe you assume it but I don't think it's accurate. I've certainly not bleated any such thing, for example.
