I must (yes, MUST) express my disgust & disappointment that Pretty Woman, a Fabulous Song, was chosen over Stairway to Heaven, an iconic song that wins, at least in the U.S.A. as the most played rock & roll song in History, winning most favored status year after year after year.

If more people would participate I would Demand (yes, DEMAND) a re-count.

Yours in Sour Grapes,

Anne

I think it depends on how you define Rock.

To me, Stairway is a fine ballad, but it does not epitomize "Rock".

When forced to choose between some of the great pieces we are looking at, I have a particular criterion for my choices, as does everyone else here.

I would be happy to have a TOP Ten list. If we must trim it down to just one song, though, I think each one of us is going to have at least one song that falls by the wayside which we feel should have made the cut over "that other thing"

Stairway to heaven is brilliant....................but along with several others...............first one that comes to mind is Baker Street Gerry Rafferty, that are so eulogised , they have have taken a place that rivals religious devotion when heard by certain people.................which turns me right off.

Sorry.

I must have missed the gist of this thread by a mile because I thought we were doing this to have fun & share music tastes, not try to second-guess Billboard Magazine.

I've been voting on which song I like best and am more inclined to enjoy listening to from start to finish.

I'm confused.:-3:-2:thinking:

Didn't mean to suggest that there may be any rules to this game.

Thanks for your input and welcome to the thread, Fuzzy. At this point, unless the OP is read it's difficult to get the gist of the thread. In any event, we're in the final stages of our task and should be finished shortly. You're welcomed to vote on the two competing tracks if you'd like.

Although this seems like a losing cause, as a kid I always backed the Indians, as in Cowboys vs. Indians. Even married one.

Okay, we've come down to three tracks remaining. I don't want to pair two of them and give the third a free ride so what I think we should do is vote on the three in a "first", "second" and "third" place finish. Sound good to everyone else, or is an alternative preferable?

My vote is in the order I listed the tracks.

All Along the Watchtower is all about Jimi Hendrix for me. Hendrix had a way of making Bob Dylan's songs enjoyable to the rock and blues crowd while the folk crowd was protesting Dylan's shift to electric.

Satisfaction is one of the first songs I'd put in the "grunge" category and I enjoy grunge music. Also, as I said earlier in the thread, only Keith Richards could make Jagger sound good as a singer.

Pretty Woman is a nice tune that accentuates Roy Orbison's voice, and it's a good rock tune, too.

That's my vote!

As an aside - perhaps you never heard Lee Jackson? Do please listen all the way through. It is, oddly, a great track.

This is a quandary; we have a 3-3 tie for both first and last place involving the same two tracks - All Along the Watchtower and Pretty Woman. Satisfaction has a hold on second place. What do we do?

Suggestions?

Well, if we must have a winner, and only one winner, here is a method we can explore:

I assigned 3 points to each # vote, 2 points to each #2 vote, and 1 point to each #3 vote

Pretty woman 3 1 1 3 2 1 3 2 16

Satisfaction 2 2 3 1 1 2 2 3 16

All Along the Watchtower 1 3 2 2 3 3 1 1 17

I feel silly. I suppose anyone who noticed was kind enough not to point it out, but there was a slight miscount.

Pretty woman 3 1 1 3 2 1 3 2 16

Satisfaction 2 2 3 1 1 2 2 3 16

All Along the Watchtower 1 3 2 2 3 3 1 1 16

We have a three way tie, and unless we get significantly more votes I reckon we should just accept that.

Don't feel silly, Bro, thanks for the effort, it's greatly appreciated.

That's it then, we have a three way tie, unless we call in The Man to break it. It would be a shame to neglect Tyr for the end result, so for those who want the tie, you have it, but for the rest, whomever they may be, Tyr can do his thing.

Thanks everyone who participated (and some of you who didn't), we had a little bit of fun and got to know each other just a bit better. I won't be doing another thread on this though because too many of you have down-right sh!tty taste in music (kidding). No, i don't have time to devote to it. So, if anyone else would like to take the reigns, please feel free to have a it. I might participate.

It's been fun. Thanks for ramrodding this rodeo.

OK, Tyr, yer up. Let's break the tie.

I then recommend, we can continue the thread by posting our favorite Rock numbers that we think should have been on the list but weren't

No judging or anything, just share the music.

What'ya think?

I don't think, for the final three places, that a tie-break is that good a solution. I prefer the idea of all three tracks being incomparably excellent.

Congratulations Ahso, you steered the thread into harbor and the result's believable.
