Out Fiddling Nero

Post by jones jones »

In AD 64 the city of Rome began to burn and by the time it was over, about 70% of the city had been destroyed. When such tragedies occur paranoia kicks in and the masses look for someone who might be responsible for the fire. The citizens of Rome blamed their emperor Nero.

Rumour had it that Nero himself has started the fire or at least had ordered others to do it. The most interesting rumour was that Nero had played his fiddle while Rome burned.

Of course like all politicians he searched for a scapegoat to take the fall and he chose the Christians. Even so he still found himself blamed for the fire. This myth is however busted when one discovers that the violin wasn’t invented for another 1500 years. So Nero didn’t fiddle while Rome burned or maybe he fiddled but not on a fiddle.

Which leads me to the point of this thread.

European bureaucrats seemingly oblivious to the debt crisis threatening to tear their so called “union” apart, have decided to impose strict rules on how restaurants serve olive oil. From 1 January eateries will be banned from serving oil to diners in small glass jugs or dipping bowls and forced instead to use pre-packed bottles.

Talk about out fiddling Nero!

Well, I am glad they settled the Olive Oil issue. I mean, after all, those guys could be diluting the olive oil with canola or something.

Now you'll know that at least the bottle once had real olive oil in it.

Now, that's out of the way, they can deal with some of the simple problems, like the economy.
