US Government Shut Down - Meat recall

Post by Patsy Warnick »

The US Government has shut down - it'll be two weeks Tuesday 10/15.

USDA an other agencies are not working.

I received a phone call yesterday from my Kroger grocery store.

I purchased a Chicken and it needs to be returned.

Foster Farms Chicken # E 6l37 - T 6137 - 7632

Kroger's hot line # 1-800-576-4377

The news reported Foster Farms plants in California has had a Salmonella out break and since the plants were not being inspected - Foster Farms continued to process and package.

So, I returned my chicken to my local store - stood in line with other's with their chicken. Yes, every one received the money value of the chicken but I never considered our food being in jeopardy from the Gov't. shut down.

So, have you purchased any chicken lately? I'm sure other issues will surface with other plants.

At the poultry plant where I work in Georgia, the USDA inspectors are still on the job. They are indeed not getting paid right now because of the shutdown, but they are still inspecting all our poultry and plant procedures.

Along

It's good to hear inspections are still conducted. This could be a very isolated incident - and some one dropped the ball in the process.

I've never received a call from the grocery store to return a food product.

I never thought of this aspect of the shut down.
