Talking of Sniffer dogs offending Muslims....
Friday, my husband was due for a visit from the Community home visit NHS nurse.
First of all, they were three hours late and offered no apology but that's fine, I know they're up against It.
Then they are standing behind my gate and when I Invite them In, they ask me to ' Do something with my dogs'.
' Such as ? ' I asked. ' Well, do you have somewhere outside you can put them just while we're here?
So first of all, I ask If either of them are Muslim because I would actually have no problem with that.
No, one says she just doesn't like dogs.
I assure her that both will not be any problem to them.
' Well I prefer It If you kept them outside while we're In the house.' ' I just don't like dogs around me'.
I point out that one dog Is 15 years old and there Is torrential rain.
Yes, I could have offered to put them In their room out of the way but by that time, my husband came out and stated ' My house, my dogs, they live here, you don't. Your choice ??
She then asks If we could just shut them away somewhere....We then tell them to leave.
Don't get me wrong, I have the utmost sympathy for anyone afraid of dogs or respect Muslim culture on the Issue of dogs but some obese bolshy jobsworth ????

Why didn't you just offer to shut them in another room while they were there in the first place? I don't expect anyone to put up with my dogs if visiting to do work in the house be they workmen or whatever. Why should they they? Guests are a different matter though it does depend on the guest.

Do you not think you were being unreasonable?
So what if they wanted the dogs out the way, if it's a genuine fear then why not, they are also a health and safety risk, community nurses along with other visitors to houses with dogs have been attacked, growled at etc for simply getting too close to the dog's owner.
Can't say I blame them for wanting them out the way, every single dog owner always says 'oh the dog is harmless' no matter what it's nature.

I used to make home visits in my old job and most people would ask me if I was bothered by their dog. I would say no, provided that they weren't bothered by me. Some others would shut their dogs away before I arrived. I think it's a case of mutual respect and attitude. I can remember one visit when a huge, overweight Rottweiler plonked himself on my feet and proceeded to lick his private bits for the whole hour I was there :wah:

A few years back, when Peter had the cancer, one of the Community nurses was genuinely frightened of dogs. I had absolutely no problem with her and every day I put the dogs away In another room. If she was due at 3 pm, I'd have them put away by 2.45 In case she was early. Then they didn't get to bark at her when she knocked the door.
However, this woman was rude from the outset.
If she had said she was frightened of them, fine but she ' just didn't like dogs around her'.
It was her bolshy manner from the outset that made us ask her to leave. She didn't Initially ask If we could put them In another room, she asked If I could put them outside the house. In winter, In torrential rain !!!! Her attitude stunk.

On one occasion I was seeing a client he asked if I was OK with dogs, no problem said I. Little did I know he had three rescued rottweillers. He opened the door let them in and left me with them while he made a cup of tea. Nice doggy nice doggy nice doggy. they can be really big dogs in case you didn't know.

There's ways of approaching situations and especially In Community Nursing where you are going Into people's homes ever day, I expect a little decorum.
She was so rude, that my husband said after she had left, that he wouldn't have had her near him In a nursing capacity either.
It's no different to customer care In shops. You can't expect anyone to come under that hostility and rudeness and not expose their umbrage.
When my Muslim friends come Into my house, I automatically put them away because I respect their feelings but not off some bolshy rude jobsworth.
So ner
You would not put up with that kind of rudeness In a shop so why should anyone In their home? And don't try telling me you would.
I also have the police round my house regually. Some don't like my dogs and I put them out of the way. But they show tact and diplomacy.

That's what I thought when I read your first post.
My hubby his (ex)brother-in-law is muslim and didn't want "pets", at least NO animals in the house, but our house is a "pet" house, he came round for my birthday and I realised about the pets and asked if he was bothered by them, He replied: This is your house, and i'm a guest, I cannot demand your pets to leave the house as this is YOUR house. If I was so bothered about your pets in your house, I should not have come and visited.
I did end up putting the cats in their room.. It seemed more comfortable for everyone, incl. the cats

Good for him Chloe !!!
My Sister-In-Law Is terrified of cats and I do have to put them In another room on her visits... you know, just In case they leap from the ceiling onto her face and rip her to pieces ( roll eyes ).

My Sister-In-Law is too.. like my baby Stewie would eat her or something.. The same Stewie that rolls over in the mornings when I wake up and paddles upside down :wah:
Although I must say, I couldn't go round someone's house if they were a beekeeper. Buzzing flying things give me a heart attack!
Hubby has rattle snakes, no problems with them, but what am I scared of? bees! :wah:

Now my nephews house Is a whole new ball game. Three storey's wall to wall with Vivarium's. Everything from Bosch Monitor's to Boa Constrictors to Spiders to African Tree Frogs. Then there's the Insects he has to breed to feed them. But then, many exotic species owe their lives to him as he gets called to Airports to take exotic's being caught smuggled In when they are In bad shape.
Visitors know and understand that and they have a choice weather to go In or not. It's not unusual to be sitting on the sofa sipping a cup of tea and an Iguana goes marching past you.

Those were the days.. We had over 60 reptiles, spiders, frogs etc.
I loved it!
Shame I don't have the time and energy for so many reptiles anymore.. We only have a couple of snakes left, and my spider (Mathilda).

On the flip side of the coin, we invited a couple to spend the the evening with us (it was too far for them to drive home after an evening of drinking) and the asswipe husband refused to leave their wirehair terriers at home and they showed up with their two dogs without warning. I opened the door, the dogs raced inside, snarfed up the cat food and chased our poor cat into a closet. I was furious.

You decided not to put your dogs away for what ever reason?
You stated the Home Nurse was rude - maybe she was? maybe she could've taken a different approach?
You started with the Home Nurse being 3 hours late - I think the 3 hour late really did irritate you and provoked your decision not to put the dogs away?
I have had plenty of Home Nurse visits - 3 hours late wouldn't be acceptable.
I would've released the dogs - run :yh_rotfl :yh_rotfl just kidding.
The situation - the out come probably would've been civil had the Home Nurse placed a call to you as to her running late etc..
Will the same Home Nurse return or do you have a different Nurse visit?
Good luck if that Nurse returns..:yh_rotfl
