The 2014 Grand National... My final Shortlist
Due to the problems with FG and finding my original thread, I have created a new thread for the shortlist.
This Is probably one of the best line up's I have seen for a few years with some real old warriors battling for the greatest prize In Steeple Chasing.
I will shorten this list of the final 10 to 6 later In the week before the race on Saturday.
I do advise that If you're having a flutter, then find a Betvictor outlet where they are paying 6 places. Paddypower pay 5.
In no particular order
Teaforthree 9/1
Tidal Bay 14/1
Balthazar King 25/1
Trio D'Arlene 20/1
Big Shu 33/1
Shakalakaboomboom 33/1
Hunt Ball 40/1 :-4
Any Currency 66/1
The Package 33/1
Wyck Hall 33/1

The 2014 Grand National... My final Shortlist
Tidal Bay goes Into my final 6 selections.
Ordinarily, I would rule out any 13 year old carrying top weight of 11 stone 10lb but this Is an extremely experienced Steeple Chaser and a right old warrior.
I'm guessing Nichol's has retirement In mind and hope to replicate Neptune Collognes and see Tidal Bay also go out In a blaze of glory.
He came a respectable 2nd In February under 11/10 so he could just pull this off under that weight.
An extremely popular horse with a huge fan base. If he pulls this off, they'll hear the cheers In France,
At 14/1 he's a good each way bet. A no fall record and will certainly stay the distance.

Balthazar King goes Into the final 6 selections.
Experience wise and for sheer stamina, I would be extremely surprised If this boy was not In the top three, If not the winner. While all the pundits rave about Teaforthree and quite rightly so, for me, this Is the strongest stayer In the field of 40 runners.
He's won the last 3 times out and my only slight concern was the grueling win at Cheltenham 3 weeks ago In the Cross Country. A race a little under 4 miles with 32 obstacles so can he recover enough In time to take on Aintree? I think he can. Known In racing circles as the comeback kid.
He has had a couple of falls In his career but with 40 starts, I can forgive that. Out of 40, he's won 13 and been placed 8 times.
Considering only 17 horses managed to finish the race out of 40 last year, there's no shame In his 15th place In this race.
10 years old, Irish, trained by Phillip Hobbs and likely to be ridden by Richard Johnson.
At 25/1 today, he has to be a good each way bet.

A race of drama with only 18 of the 40 managing to finish.
A place pay out for me on Balthazar King 2nd who sadly just run out of stamina on the long run In.
Hunt Ball managed to finish 17th.
I did say on Facebook that If Long Run finished the course, I'd post my boobs on Facebook and In my other thread I did say I never believed Sam Waley-Cohen had the experience to get him round the course and I was right. He fell at the 9th... Muppett !!!
Any Currency a non runner and Big Shu fell at the 3rd.
Still, I'm happy with the second.
Full result.
How they finished:
Pineau De Re (25-1)
Balthazar King (14-1)

Don't know about your Oija board but as the horses paraded before the race, they found a horse shoe. They didn't know at that point which horse It belonged to but they did say that It was meant to be lucky.
The winner returned to the winners enclosure with only 3 shoes..

Yes he did and there's a story to that.
He went along to a horse auction and as It got under way, he raised his hand to let the auctioneer know he was there and would be bidding later. Only as he raised his hand, the sale of Monbeg Dude went under way and with no other bids, he was stuck with the horse. By all accounts, the Mrs, Her Majesty's grand daughter Zara Phillips gave him a hard time over that,
He did well coming 7th.
