Is this the end of the Irish Republican Army?
Ten years on and the Peace is still holding. In the last decade we have seen a transformation in the Irish Republican Movement and the IRA as a whole. One of the great achievements of the political wing of the movement SINN FEIN under Gerry Adam's is to press forward and towards an All Ireland political party. This came about in the 2002 general election, when for the first time a majority of IRA para military activist became politicans and were seen to work for the good in local communities. Four out of seven of their members were elected in Northern Ireland. Last year in Southern Ireland,149 local Sinn Fein councillors were elected to County Council seats. In the next general election in Southern Ireland in 2007,Sinn Fein will hold the balance of power in Ireland. And the song will play, A Nation Once Again.
