It's Not the Gun that Kills!

Post by High Threshold »

A lot of people rave on about how peculiarly dangerous guns are and how they ought to be completely removed from the community. They point to all of the splendid young people who go on to kill whole classrooms full of students (once a gun finds its way into their hand) or how the petty criminal purchases a gun and becomes a murderer, or the mentally unstable who destructively blast their way through shopping centres, post offices, churches, and drive-bys (weapon in hand) - and even the child who gets hold of a misplaced gun and accidentally shoots someone to death.

But what these bleeding hearts fail to understand is the simple fact of life that when you want to kill someone ¦.. you don't need no gun. Anyways, banning guns is agin' the 5th Amendment. It is the responsibilidy of each and ever American citizen to own and bear firearms at all times. Basically, without the functionality of guns for the masses, the people of them there United States will internalize they's problems, they will be communists everwhere and the country will turn into a shooting range with people being shot down anywhere and everwhere ¦.. with no way to protect they selves! So y'all jes shut yo selves up, git your nose outa America's bisiness and stay out the way!

Stop bringing it up then.

Why don't you disarm the police?

End armed officers being sent on routine patrols

An intriguing point of view. Do you think disarming the police in the UK will remedy the problem with the abundance of guns in the U.S. and the daily, shooting mayhem in that country? :yh_chickn

I am opposed to arming the Police here or anywhere else. I've known quite a few Police Officers & they have been totally opposed to being armed as well. All it serves to do is to create an arms race.

Ever since the first days of the Peelers, all the Police have had is basically their baton (apart from in more recent years, where the Tazer has begun to become standard issue in some regions). I hadn't been aware that the Scottish Police were any different, and I believe that whilst they remain part of the U.K. then they should not be armed. However, if/when they get independence, then let them decide for themselves. It's their own throats they're cutting. If they get guns, the the criminal classes will also want guns in order to put themselves on an equal footing. Then the Police will want bigger guns, and so it continues.

They're not any different - except they don't wear the funny hats - but since the recent police reforms the man in charge who used tobe chief constable of strathclyde is someone who favours more armed police on the beat. The locals are rather annoyed about it to put it mildly. There is no need for it and i's not a road we want to go down. It's exactly the kind of thing those opposed to centralising he police were concerned about.

Exactly. Over 60,000 Americans will die by guns this year. That should be unacceptable to any society.

But what these bleeding hearts fail to understand is the simple fact of life that when you want to kill someone ¦.. you don't need no gun.

Wrong. You do if you want to slaughter many of them at once, or kill them anonymously from a distance, or even make sure that you kill them quickly. That argument is false and always has been. Look at the data from countries that control guns. Their citizens are NOT dying by the tens of thousands ever year.

Anyways, banning guns is agin' the 5th Amendment.

Amendments can be repealed and changed. Also the 2nd refers to militias being armed. The Founding Fathers surely never envisioned a country that became a murderous shooting gallery for its citizens.

The Constitution, which reactionary NEOCONS like yourself have never understood, is designed to be a living, changing document. Itr is designed to change to solve problems with society that were never imagined when it was written. Should your clone inherit your wealth? If you download your brain to a network, are you still a citizen?

Things change....and so should you.

It is the responsibilidy of each and ever American citizen to own and bear firearms at all times.

It is the responsibility of each citizen to create a country that is safe and secure. More guns does not do that. See the data and forget your brainwashed preconceptions.

Basically, without the functionality of guns for the masses, the people of them there United States will internalize they's problems, they will be communists everwhere and the country will turn into a shooting range with people being shot down anywhere and everywhere

How ironic. What you say we should do to prevent that...caused it. People are being shot down everywhere. Can't you see that?

Once again, wrong. The 5th amendment refers to Self Incrimination. The only mention of Militia in it is that the right doesn't apply to them. Nothing to do with the right to bear arms (or to arm bears for that matter).

"No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation."

Sure thing! let me do some research and get my facts in order first...and since it's the first day of school (only for the younger kids, none of mine or I wouldn't be on here right now) I'll ned a little time. Maybe later this afternoon.

I know amendments can be changed, after all Prohibition was created AND repealed, but I'm not sure of the process...

As I understand it Prohibition was only intended as a temporary measure in order to nail Al Capone on Tax Dodging charges.

The other interesting point about Prohibition is that the alcohol being a 'Forbidden Fruit' increased the demand for it & accordingly the price, and led to a higher rate of alcoholism than ever before. Just as with Drug Dealers, the owners of the Speakeasys never wanted prohibition to be repealed. They had it far too good.

My understanding is it was the christian right that were behind it diven by religious zeal bur also prejudice agaunst all the european immigrants that brought their beer drinking culture with them. I susoect you could make a case it was on of the most harmful amendments in the history of the US.

Generally speaking I tend not to make assertions unless I can back them up at least to some extent.

Prohibition: Roots of Prohibition | PBS

With the ratification of the income tax amendment in 1913, and the federal government no longer dependent on liquor taxes to fund its operations, the ASL moved into high gear. As anti-German fervor rose to a near frenzy with the American entry into the First World War, ASL propaganda effectively connected beer and brewers with Germans and treason in the public mind. Most politicians dared not defy the ASL and in 1917 the 18th amendment sailed through both houses of Congress; it was ratified by the states in just 13 months.

Religiious zeal and prejudice are powerful forces when they get together. Bet you don't think of the kkk as a religious organisation.

Reading this thread brought up some issues.

First of all it was stated that Over 60,000 Americans will die by guns this year.

I dunno where that number come from, but it is wildly inaccurate.

All homicides

Number of deaths: 16,238

Deaths per 100,000 population: 5.2

Firearm homicides

Number of deaths: 11,068

Deaths per 100,000 population: 3.6
Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

And then there is the real number which to me is most important,

Murder Victims

8,583

Not a number anybody should be proud of, but it seems to me the when and where this happens should be less of a issue than blaming a gun.

I suggest a little study in demographics, culture, history would go a long way to understanding why disarming the citizen is at best foolish.

Anybody following the story now know of the predictable race riots.

All that aside.

Hmm

Gun stores see sales spike in wake of Ferguson riots

For the past two days, Steve King has been “unbelievably busy at his gun store, Metro Shooting at 11434 St. Charles Rock Road. King said business spiked 50 percent as local residents respond to the violent events taking place in Ferguson.

“We’ve sold a variety of handguns, shotguns and AR-15s (a semi-automatic rifle), King said. “All of the sales are having to do with home defense.

I don't blame the gun. No one does. The blame is on the American way of life (i.e. the government) that supresses its population ........ and gives them a gun as the only tool available to survive.

Hey Jackass

Until McDonald vs. Chicago it was illegal to even own a gun in Chicago. In spite of the Supreme Court ruling Mayor

. . Emanuel has tried to tamp down violence in Chicago since taking office in 2011, pushing for tougher rules for gun retailers and stronger federal laws on firearms. Chicago’s rate of gun-related violence is three times that of New York.

NY Times

Speaking of New York, where former Mayor Bloomberg (Blameberg) continues his efforts to disarm American citizens. In the eyes of those mayors and much of the Democratic Party it is the guns.

GIVES GUNS?

You really have no idea.

It’s the past twenty years or so where we have seen any success in reclaiming our 2nd Amendment rights, and there still are large parts of the nation where there are in place unreasonable restrictions on that right.

August to date....Shot and killed 15......Homicides.... 16 Presumably one homicide was committed without the use of a firearm.

Year to date......Shot and killed 215......Homicides... 252 Presumably 37 homicides were committed without the use of a firearm.

So presumably on that basis, firearms are the tool of choice for those that want to harm others.

Have I got anything wrong in that presumption ?

Year to date......Shot and killed 215......Homicides... 252 Presumably 37 homicides were committed without the use of a firearm.

So presumably on that basis, firearms are the tool of choice for those that want to harm others.
Have I got anything wrong in that presumption ?

Well, it would depend on just how badly one would want to harm another.

It is obvious firearms would be the prime choice.

Those numbers all in a city where for all practicable purposes guns are illegal.

Illegal for citizens who want to have the best means to protect themselves in their home, but also exercise that right as in public they go about their business.
What happened to Kamala Harris' campaign?
She had the black vote all locked up.

They call it the United States, a collection of states with differing laws. Just because this side of the state line there are conditions for gun ownership, guns will inevitably get transported over from neighbouring or more distant states where there is ease of ownership..........or didn't the legislators think of that ?
I thought I knew more than this until I opened my mouth

Yes Bruv, that is why Mayor Bloomberg & other mayors of large cities are complaining about the ease of guns in other states, as they wind up illegally sold to gangs, etc. They may have been bought "legally" but it is for an illegal purpose. Almost every gun used in crime in the north comes here that way, but gun runners who are legally allowed to buy these weapons. Mayor BLAMEburg is correct to blame.

HT

Have you ever been shot? because Guns do kill

Several Police Officers are wreck less with their weapons(guns).

Just yesterday a nurse/counselor made a home visit to BLACK woman's home.

This Black woman is mentally ill and the nurse urged her to get back into the hospital, the woman refused to go.

The nurse then called police for assistance & the woman again is refusing to go.

Apparently this woman grabbed a hammer & stated don't come near me - I'm not going.

A Police Officer shot her to death.

Now Officers have protective gear on - and several choices to gain control of the situation - like stun gun - rubber bullets - or several could've approached her & take her down. But Police chose to shoot

Guns do kill & Officers had choices as you've stated.

Will this death go into the murder rate status? NO

It's a justified shooting - really?

This sickens me & it happens all too often.

So again I ask HT Have you ever been shot?
