X Factor UK 2014

Post by G#Gill »

Last year Sam Bailey the woman ex-prison warder from Leicester did stand out as having a terrific voice, as did a couple of other people. But this year, I reckon there's a dearth of talent in the UK ! This last Saturday I very nearly switched off the TV in the middle of the programme - nobody seemed to be singing totally in tune and most of them have been infected by this 'improvisation' thing where they deviate from the basic melody to such an extent that the song is unrecognisable, I believe Tom Jones calls those wobbly bits 'ooblies' :wah: .

Also they seem to think that the louder they 'shout' the songs the better the judges will like them ! Strangely there seems to be a fashion, at the moment, for 'singing' songs by shouting as loudly as they can. I think they must all be trying to be Whitney Houston (even the lads ! :wah:), but I don't think they realise that there was only one Whitney ! Another thing that annoys me greatly is when the judges say 'You made that song your own' FFS just because they did masses of 'ooblies' at 500 decibels just does not mean that the singer has made that song 'their own' !!!!!!! :-5:-5:-5 I can't STAND that flamin' 'catchphrase' "You made that song your own!" It gets to me as much as when I hear on the news "Lessons will be learned"

Anyway, IMO there are only 3 who come any where near deserving to get to the final and they are Fleur, Lauren and Lola, and they need to up their acts and improve and be more confident about themselves. Out of those 3 I think Fleur stands the best chance of winning, at the moment.

But, as I said earlier, this year's "talent" is rubbish. They are all much of a muchness IMO. Nobody jumps out of the screen at me this year !

Well, I think that when the judges say, "You've made that song your own." they are saying"You ruined that song for everybody else."

I quit watching those talent shows a while back. Sure, now and again, a true delight surfaced through those shows, but there are now so many of them, and frankly, the talent pool is far too shallow to support them all.

I usually have X factor on in the background. If anyone stands out for me I usually pay more attention. No-one has this year.

I think it's way past its best and I'm tired of the way everything about it is so obviously manipulated.

I agree with you both - I think X Factor has gone well past it's 'sell by' date ! I also never did like the way they belittled those who thought they could sing but actually were tone deaf and sounded like a demented cat on steroids ! That side of it was rather cruel - boosting some poor untalented youngster then kicking the chair from under them. All done to try to improve the ratings of course, and failing miserably !

I remember "New Faces" & "Opportunity Knocks" back in the 70s & most of our better performers - of all genres, be it Music or Comedy, etc. began there. Also, nearly all of the material on those shows was 100% original, as opposed to the 100% covers nowadays. Is there some sort of rule on the X-Factor that says what you do has to be rip-off of someone else's work?

Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end, we'd sing and dance forever and a day.

"That was the best performance of the series"

"You have to be the one to watch"

"You have grown so much on this journey"

"You have improved 110% since last week"

Or my favourite "You are sh*te, go home now and never leave it" ......I made that one up.

I love to watch and rip them all apart.........is this bad of me ?

"You have to be the one to watch" Yeah, you'll be booted out of Big Brother next year

"You have grown so much on this journey" Yes, you actually get worse each time.

"You have improved 110% since last week" That's because you were utter shyte to begin with and anything has to be an Improvement

I suppose I will force myself to watch X Factor again, tonight. I must be a masochist !

But, in truth, there is this compulsion to see who gets thrown out of the competition this week ! I suppose I could restrict my 'watching' to Sunday's results programme, but I'm a glutton for punishment so I'll watch their performances tonight just to see if any of them have improved. You never know, maybe they won't shout so raucously disguising the melody line ! One can but hope !

Well, as it happens, I won't be watching it tonight, or any other programmes (not that there is anything really worth watching on a Saturday evening !), as we've been invited round to my nephew's house to make a bit of an evening of it because my sister and hubby (down from the Isle of Skye in Scotland) are calling in there for a meal. I think they're getting a take-away, so we'll go round there in about half an hour - we've already eaten.

Maybe I will be able to watch the repeat which will air tomorrow afternoon. Nah LarsMac I'm not really addicted :yh_rotfl just a tad interested
