Sparks Will Fly

Post by FourPart »

Last night I watched the first of this year's Christmas Lectures from the Royal Institution - something I've made a special point of watching ever since the first one I saw in 1974, with Prof Eric Laithwaite presenting them, 40 years ago this year.

This year it's being presented by Danielle George, and very well at that. Last night she was getting into how Digital Technology works - in particular, dot matrix graphics & display screen, using Piccadilly Circus to demonstrate how to transmit images, displaying the kids pictures live for all to see (which must have puzzled quite a few people), as well as using a multi storey office block's windows as a computer screen to play a game of Tetris on - once again, live (at least, at time of recording).

Once they've all been broadcast I'll be downloading them for my 'little' archive of all the televised lectures (ever since the first televised one in 1973, with David Attenborough).
