Chris Bryant, MP.

Chris Bryant, Labour’s new shadow culture minister, says "we can’t just have a culture dominated by Eddie Redmayne and James Blunt and their ilk".

Mr Blunt went to Harrow. Mr Redmayne attended Eton College. Chris Bryant, by contrast, was educated at... Cheltenham College. Let's type that again. Chris Bryant was privately educated at Cheltenham College.

Stone the crows. We can’t have our political culture dominated by Chris Bryant and his ilk.

Of the UK artists who had one of the top 40 selling albums in 2010, 2011, 2013 or 2014, 72% were educated at a comprehensive and 62% did not attend a university at all.

Fewer than half of Labour's MPs, by contrast, were educated at a comprehensive. 15% of Labour's MPs, including this plum-duff foot-in-mouth shadow culture minister, were privately educated. God only knows what proportion send their children to private school.

You are not the man for the job, Mr Bryant. You're almost as major an embarrassment to socialism as your party's leader (BA, Oxon). You hope to attract respect by attacking James Blunt?

With what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. Why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to Mr Blunt, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

Thou hypocrite.

The old FG never got up on his hobby horse like that.

Can't say as I have ever 'listened' to the schooling or heritage of singers, not until after they have made an impression and then it is irrelevant....I am hooked.....or not.

Well he wouldn't, would he. Different chap all round.

I offer a quote relating to Mr Bryant's unfortunate behaviour. I'm not going to say who wrote it, it's so much more interesting to guess and then be surprised. The manner in which an individual enjoys certain advantages over others is a test of a true gentleman.

The power which the strong have over the weak, the employer over the employed, the educated over the unlettered, the experienced over the confiding, even the clever over the silly - the forbearing or inoffensive use of all this power or authority, or a total abstinence from it when the case admits it, will show the gentleman in a plain light.

We can’t just have a culture dominated by Eddie Redmayne and James Blunt and their ilk? That ought not to be your choice to make, Mr Bryant. I doubt the competence of your discrimination in artistic matters, mainstream or otherwise.
