Evictions rise, repossesions drop?

Council tenant evictions soar following bedroom tax introduction

Old figures but suspect they still apply, nothing has gotten easier.

Home repossessions fall to lowest rate since 2008

I wonder what spin could be put on that news ?

That home owners are more responsible ?

Legal aid cuts: What has changed? - BBC News

Significant changes to civil legal aid in England and Wales came into effect on 1 April 2013, as part of a plan to reform the system and save £350m a year.

The changes meant some types of case were no longer eligible for public funds - including divorce, child contact, welfare benefits, employment, clinical negligence, and housing law except in very limited circumstances.

Years would go by between one home repossession and the next, it was not a recourse the society took when any possible alternative could be found. More often, though still rarely and in extremity, the house keys were handed in at the branch office and all payments stopped immediately while the society arranged a sale.

Not that surprising really. The council evictions are a result of not being able to afford higher rents imposed by the bedroom tax. The mortgage holders aren't affected by the bedroom tax in the first place. Then, there's a possibility that when someone falls into arrears with a mortgage there's a chance it's only a temporary setback & may not be considered a financial viability to go to the added expense of repossession. As well as the legal expenses there is the added cost of advertising the property again, and having it empty in the meantime.
