More than 300 economists, including Thomas Piketty, are urging world leaders at a London summit this week to recognise that there is no economic benefit to tax havens, demanding that the veil of secrecy that surrounds them be lifted.
David Cameron agreed to host the summit nearly a year ago, but the event is in danger of simply turning a spotlight on how the British government has failed to persuade its overseas territories to stop harbouring secretly stored cash.
Don't hold your breathe.

Tax Havens
I thought I knew more than this until I opened my mouth
Tax Havens
The poor have no lawyers that's why they end up niot owning anything. If fiddling benefits results in a jail sentence tax evasion should at least result in confiscation of assets. Doesn't take a genius to work out tax havens are not for the benefit of anyone except the very wealthy.
Tax Havens
And it's the very wealthy who make the laws that make Tax Avoidance legal, as opposed to Tax Evasion.
If something that would benefit you is immoral & illegal, simply make it legal. You can't get done for being immoral.

That's how all the common land was taken in to private ownership - get some thugs to fence it off then get an enclosure act law passed by bribing legislators to make the theft legal. Tax havens are just a variation on a very old theme. Make all your money in the UK then get lawyers to shift it offshore and fence it off so tye grubby peasants can't get it back.
