Ben Butler: The exonerated father who went on to kill

Just watched this on the news, the child had been returned, so it was more difficult to question any problem picked up at her school.

I was watching th live broadcast of jeremy corbins' speech on the EU when it was interrupted for a report on this case as "breaking news". The writing underneath had already broken the news there was no need to interrupt the speech. News it might be but hardly of earth shattering importance that couldn't wait a few minutesd. I checked none of the other news channels interupted the live broadcast. He was making some rather good points aboiut how we have benefitted from the eu and what is at risk from the fascists thatb want to take over if we vote to leave.

I'm afriad I no longer view the bbc as unbiased. Their politicalm editor Nick robinson should have been sacked for what he did sduiring the independence referendum falsifying news reports

Ok I appreciate the seriousness of the case I still think it should have waited. There needs to be an enquiry about why the father was given custody he had assaulted when it was a baby. I think if I'd been the grandparent I'd have disappeared with the child and tried to get as much public interest as possible.

It does rather bring into question the competence of Quentin Hogg's daughter, who chose to return the girl: "Mrs Justice Hogg had sided with Butler despite objections from police, social services and Ellie's maternal grandfather, Neal Gray. At the time, Mr Gray - who had cared for Ellie since she was a baby - had allegedly warned the judge she would have "blood on your hands"."

Mrs Justice Hogg ordered that every public body that held files on Ellie should prominently mark them with the statement that Ben Butler "has been exonerated by the High Court of all allegations of the physical abuse of Ellie Butler".

The court orders also gave permission for Butler to serve parts of Justice Hogg's judgment on any school, doctor, social worker, health worker or police officer that came into contact with the family.

Were I asked, I'd have her DBE stripped from her. I note she retired earlier this year "6 days prior to the beginning of the trial of Ben Butler".

Another thing to consider is how could the mother, knowing his past, and after experiencing his behaviour, put her child in that danger, and why would she attempt to cover it up ?

Some people are so under another's spell / control as to defy logical reasoning.

Dame Mary Hogg was mentioned on the evening Radio 4 news as declining to elaborate on her arrogant decision to go over the top on Mr Butler's behalf despite his appalling history and the evidence placed before her. She would not, as the BBC pointed out, say that to a public enquiry. I can think of few better reasons to hold one.

When people come to select her epitaph, "Her name liveth for evermore" might suit. She'll be a topic of conversation in pubs long after her illustrious ancestors have been consigned to footnotes in obscure theses.

Apparently the death occurred in her absence, then she rushed home in order to affect a plan.

How she could arrive home to find the lifeless body of a child she carried and then concoct a story with the child's killer, beggars all reasoning
