Traffic Issue - violation? I'm asking you.

Post by Patsy Warnick »

I live in a 55 or older golfing community. Our streets are @ 3 lanes wide to accommodate golf cart driving. Golf carts are to drive on the right side of the road and our speed limit is 25 mph...

OK - I'm driving the golf cart and the road bottle necks into one lane - so I am now merged in with general traffic at the intersection. We proceed thru the intersection - the road widens & I move to the right & proceed as the traffic on my left is driving by. all good so far. I'm still on the right side of the road and traffic on my left is slowing down - I'm still going as I am now even with this vehicle on my left - this vehicle is going a little slow & I am now faster than the vehicle. There's @ 2 car lengths gap since this vehicle is going slow - I'm now needing to make a left soon as I'm now passing this slow vehicle - I proceed - put my blinker on - merge to the left side & soon make a left hand turn.

Is there a problem?

what do you think?

It all sounds perfectly sensible to me...that doesn't mean anything though. Is there some law about golf carts not being where you were in the road or something?

well, If you were within the speed limit for your vehicle, and not impeding the cars progress, I don't see a problem.

Within the UK there is a specific rule that allows you to pass traffic on the inside if the traffic is travelling in lanes (for example at a set of traffic lights or at a junction).

Without this rule it would be classed as undertaking and therefore an offence.

I do not know whether the rules in the US follow this pattern?

My golf cart was going the speed limit and the cart is allowed on our roads as long as your not impeding traffic. In this issue my cart was moving faster then the vehicle on my left.

Well out of the blue comes this white truck honking his horn & screaming at me - he ripped me a new one :yh_rotfl I really didn't get his rage.

He saw me passing the slow vehicle on the right and of course your not suppose to pass on the right.

I wasn't passing - he wanted to call the police - I said call them - I live right here.

I just don't see this as a illegal move.

What was I suppose to do - stop in the right hand lane & wait for the parade of cars to go by?:-5

The pissed off guy in the white truck is my neighbor down the street..:yh_rotfl :yh_rotfl

Life is good

some folks just aren't happy unless they are getting angry at others.

Patsy I don't think you did anything wrong either... what options did you really have.

I really didn't get the problem - apparently this white truck guy was stuck in line behind the slow vehicle & was getting heated before approaching me.

The dumb look on my face made him madder :yh_rotfl - OMG he was in a rage :yh_rotfl

I'm sure he feels better picking on me - it's that kind of year..

What did I miss that indicated he was a professional driver?

That didn't seem at all professional to me.

Yeah i spose. Sometimes you just have to let some go through to the keeper.....or in your case 'catcher'. Cant hit all of them out of the park.

What I don't get is how mad the truck guy was when it did not involve him.

He was in the slow line - must've had @ 12 - 15 cars in line.

I had made my left - 2 blocks down the street & here come this guy honking & hanging out his window screaming. I really didn't get his problem.

This guy has to have a short fuse - this did not involve him to be this mad.

Oh, I'm sure I'll see him again.

There's a lot of crazy's out there..

Maybe he lost to his Mrs last time he played.

We cant always figure out why someone shows hostility. Maybe his dog died by a horrific golf cart accident?

Basically its not ours to guess at but i ubderstand that vile hostility when its over the top can shake you up a bit.

Patsy, he funarkled, he was a funarchilist and he funarkles where ever he goes. You wouldnt have beenthe first and wont be the last victim of his funarkling ways. Just remember that his high blood pressure will kill him before it will kill anyone else. See it in a comical way and thats how youll look upon it in the future.

I had one lunatic yesterday on the way home from work. The traffic, typically of Rush Hour was nose to tail, crawling along at about 5mph, when this massive Chelsea Tractor (big even for one of them - personalised number plates & all) cuts everyone up on the inside, across all the chevrons, then forces his way through the traffice, and onto the outside of the exit lanes, where they were immediately marked for merging. Even at that point he made not attempt to merge, but to continue to pass the queue of traffic in the face of a similar queue of traffic coming in the opposite direction. It was just unbelieveable. No-one was letting him back in, and his driving was really aggressive. I was sooo hoping a Police car would come along in the opposite direction - or be one of the ones he was trying to cut up. Never one around when you want one.
