HOUMA, La. -- Ernest Liner is a reptile lover. He loves studying them and loves to eat them, too.
The 80-year-old has published more than 130 scientific papers on herpetology. But his latest work is a cookbook, "The Culinary Herpetologist."
He has 950 recipes for lizards, frogs, snakes, and the like. You'll find everything from alligator tetrazzini to iguana stew. Some of his recipes are historical in nature, like the one for roasted poison dart frog from the Campa Indians of Peru.
Liner said he's been interested in slithering things since he caught his first copperhead, a poisonous snake, when he was a Cub Scout.

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming.
WOO HOO!!, what a ride!!!"

It's what happens after the poor critters die. They can't have my frogs and toads! They are my classroom pets!
