I went to the Taste of Cleveland festival and sampled food from a bunch of downtown restaurants. Delicious!
-Iced cappuccino something from Starbucks
-a spiked lemonade (the first time EVER that I didn't get carded!!!!!!:D)
-kielbasa
-sauerkraut
-cabbage noodles
-pierogies
-chicken marsala
-mashed potatoes with bacon and something green
-lamb kebab

I'm actually a West Sider. She's probably about forty minutes from me. But West siders and East siders almost never cross the river, even if it's only 40 minutes! It's kind of weird. But we're both in the suburbs of Cleveland.

I had Seasoned breaded dijon mustard chicken fried in oil w/ rice a roni (the San Fransisco treat) and a large bowl of toasted almond fudge ice cream.

Last week before I had my setback I dug a hole 5'X6' and 5' deep.
I have a bunch of old lumber from NV's addition on her house and a cord of hardwood from a tree she had removed last year. At noon today I plan on lighting her off. I will burn it until around midnite tonite and hope to have about 3' of white hot coals in bottom by then.
Backing up a little, yesterday I went out and bought 2 hind quarters of pork (rind on), they weigh about 25# each. I also bought about 25#'s of bottom round (clod) plus I have about 20#'s of brisket.
After getting them home I injected them with a marinade of wine vinegar, french dressing, red hot sauce, ranch and Italian dressings and a kikkoman marinade sauce, they are setting in refrigerator. (Yeah NV's refrigerator is kinda cramped with 100#'s of meat in it)
I took and placed about 8 gunnysaks in water yesterday (they have to be totally soaked or they will burn).
Around nine tonite we will take the meats and put a rub on them, place in doubled up papers saks (wet-ted after in) and then wrap in the gunnysaks.
After we get them bundled up we take bailing wire and tie around them like you were putting a bow on a package leaving about 6' of wire to pick and place meat into the coals with.
Around midnite we place all the bundles right directly on the hot coals and throw tin over top of meat. Working fast we will bury the whole pit until there is no smoke (very important or meat will burn if ANY oxygen can get down).
I also think one of the neighbors is getting about 20#'s of corn on the cob to do too.
Then you wait and wait......................... after about 14hrs you dig er up and see what you have, usually the meat just falls apart.
So whats for supper?? Why deep pit of course.....

The fresh peach cobbler is made. So is the mango salsa, tomatilla and avocado salsa. The Pecan pies are in the oven. The neighborhood "Mom" is 88 and making the tortillas while she "supervises" EVERYTHING. The neighbors are stopping by to help pit the food, have a beer and play a game of horseshoes. We've decided next year to make it a 2 day event................. Wish you all could be here. :-4
