County and State Fairs??

Post by BTS »

Seeing as this is the 'FAIR TIME' of year in the USA, I was wondering if it was still high on your priorities after getting older. Do you enter foods, animals or sewing projects of any kind? Attend Rodeos? Relieve your childhood..... Cottoncandy..?..Corndogs? Pig chase?

Tell us about your fair and why it is special....

How about other countries? Do you have area fairs this time of year too?

County and State Fairs??

The nearest fair to me is called the Three Counties Fair and is really popular with the locals. They have all the traditional stalls and games and loads of free prizes to win. The food there is really cheap and because most of it is being sold by local farms, is extremely tasty.

There is also the annual 'win a car' game, where u have to do some crazy stunt to win a car that has been donated by a nearby car-dealers. Not sure of the dates though as to when it is on, but I think sometime during June or July.

Many a fair and rodeo in the rural areas round here. We have a lovely one south of us, I don't enter anything (I am as domestically inclined as Bart Simpson) But I do like to buy the home made jams. Yummy. there is all kinds of things sold there, from ostrich meat, to hutterite chickens. Chestnuts to Kettle Corn Popcorn. We love the fairs in the rural areas.

Locally our Stampede started that way, however the rodeo got huge, the midway commercialized and soo it is no longer classed as a fair.

Our local historic park has a fall fair where folks at the end of summer bring in surplus veggies and fruits and sell them for cheap as well crafts and such are entered it is nice just a pity we pay a premium to get into it.

Here in New England, in about two weeks we have what they call the Big "E"!

There is everything from all kinds of "prize" winning Farm animals, Cotton candy, Over stuffed baked potatos, oversized pretzels, pizza, fried dough, and tons of other goodies to eat. They set up Kiddie rides, pony rides, and the like. There are stunt car race drivers who put on an exciting show, all kinds of Crafts booths selling their wears, and even live stage performances by major Singing groups. It's a blast, we always have a lot of fun. We even get to "park" on peoples front lawns (Ofcourse they charge you to park there, as they make money off the fair once a year) since many times the public parking lots are full.

And no, we don't enter any pies, flowers, animals, or anything. Just go as happy spectators, enjoying & taking it all in!

County and State Fairs??

Yes, the state fair is coming in October. We have all the usual things, rides, games, entries of all kinds but the most enjoyed activity is the pig races. I have no idea why people find that so amusing. It's just five or six pigs that run around a small track and everyone hollers and cheers on their favorite pig. I suppose there is a little inside betting going on and it does look funny, but still. . .

This year Joe Nichols and Randy Travis is coming. I do love me some Joe Nichols even though I am not a country fan, but UUUMMM, he's yummy.

We always get a sausage dog with peppers and onions before we leave. That's just before we leave because you have to be at home real soon, if you get my drift. :wah:

Our State fair lasts 17 days. It is always a madhouse on the weekends. It has a couple of midways - one for adults and one for kids, rodeo and bullriding, top name bands at 4 bandstands. It also has all the winners of the county fairs bringing their animals for top honors. It just goes on and on. There is also horseracing. Dang - I forgot to mention the FOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!
