That first link is not in English, but the pictures are absolutely horrifying. WTF are they doing to that dog??!?!?!
You can see in his eyes, there's no spirit there. How totally sad, and sick as f*ck. Going to check out the other 2 links now.

Update:
Snopes does have some more info on this:
http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/sharkbait.asp
From Snopes:
"Based on a recent Réunion newspaper article which acknowledged the practice and reported the recent prosecution of a deliveryman (and amateur fisherman) on that island over animal cruelty charges associated with the described activity, we'd have to say there is some truth to the shark-fishing claim, although the practice does not appear to be as widespread or horrific (or tolerated) as implied by recent news stories. Rather than describing hordes of shark fisherman impaling live dogs on hooks and dragging them behind boats as shark bait, the article notes that employing dogs in shark-fishing is largely the province of a small group of amateur fisherman rather than large numbers of professionals, that the dogs used are generally dead animals picked up from roadsides or culled from the island's large population of unwanted strays (estimated at 150,000), and that the no-longer-alive animals are attached to unattended buoyed "shark trap" platforms rather than dragged alive behind boats."
More at the URL.
I have to admit I got my hackles raised on this, and didn't check into Snopes as I normally advocate. The above was brought to my attention by someone on another forum I posted this to. Just the same, as stated, the practice *does* take place, and public scrutiny of the prosecution can only be to the good.

Sorry i just cant look but if its about the shark bait it was reported here in the uk last week .I hate cruelty and neglect to animals in any way shape or form - in many ways i prefer animals to humans they are so loyal i really could hurt somebody if i caught them hurting an animal.
Can go from 0 - to bitch in 3.0 seconds .

I almost didn't look but forced myself. Even using stray dogs is inhumane and shouldn't be tolerated. Even strays deserve a decent way to be culled.:-1
