What gives with those posters that say "I am leaving FG" and then turn around and say "I am staying", and then others chime in and say "Please don't leave". Do they need attention? Are they insecure? I left for over a year sometime back and never felt it necessary to announce it. I like FG and enjoy the repartee with the posters, but it ain't my life or security blanket.

...and yup your right, they're back!

For some it is Lon, FG or similar forums may be their only chance of talking to someone that day due to a disibility or mental/health problems.

I have some friends off FG and off other forums that I speak to on the phone, we have a friendship beyond posts and If one of those friends wasnt going to be around for a while, id appreciate a heads up but it can be done privately.

What gets me is when they say their going and then dont lol...Jeeez suck in all the sympathy and pull at peoples heart strings and then dont go anywhere??? At least bugger off for a week or so lol...:D

there are SOME on here who have forged genuin friendships, as i have, and if they just dissappeared without trace, i would be worried about them.

as chezz said, there are people on here that dont get out much and these forums are a way of having a bit of company and support when they need it.

Well, I too have some genuine friendships that I have had for many years, but I communicate with them by email, not in a public forum. People that feel the need to communicate private feelings, fears and emotions with friends on a public forum are a different breed of cat and apparently have different needs.

Joseph Stalin understood these things. "I'm thinking of resigning my position as Party Chairman" was one of his better lines. You were damned if you said enjoy your retirement and damned if you questioned his judgement.

Not really, I am thinking that perhaps these folks seek a consensus opinion, which they will get on a forum, as opposed to communicating with one individual via email. But then, I'm no psychologist.

Like a rock star's lingering "farewell" tour, or a company's "going out of business" sale that lasts until the business reopens again. A bid for attention.

I put a post up saying I was leaving - not because I wanted people to beg me to stay or tell me how much they loved me :wah:

I made some great friends here at FG. We shared tears, laughter and fun .. I did not want to leave without saying goodbye and thank you. Simple as that.

I needed a break - FG became too much in my life. I think that I needed a long break to break the FG addiction - which has worked for me as I can now visit my friends here without it 'getting too much'. Some may or may not understand this but it worked for me.

By the way..sorry to those who breathed a sigh of relief when I posted my 'I'm off thread' .... cos I'm back!!!!!!! :wah:

Invite is in the mail for the 27th of November. You'd fit right in on my fam's side. My sister has friends in the UK and my parents have been there several times. They love it.

Jester;1035397 wrote: As one who left for a while then returned, its difficult to explain, for me personally I went from an uncaring slob here to really careing about people here as if they were my own troopers, then realized there are few folks there (not those here now) at the time I had my greatest conflict that just liked to create conflict period. For a whiel for me it sucked to be here.

But I learned, sad to say that caring less is better, which I should say being more careful about only caring for those 'real' ones is better. Took me a few years to learn that not everybody who shows up to a forum is here to be genuine, it takes a while to pick out the genuine ones and those are the ones I care for.

If you let the ones that play games into your life yer gonna get burned, so I understand for some its easier to leave than stay and take crap behind the scenes when every post you make gets three negative PM's in your inbox...

Yippers Jester you hit the nail on the ol head as they say.

One who left that was a hoot and I miss dearly is "John Ate Pies"

Has anyone head how he is ?

Quite a guy and one of the MOST genuine people I ever met in a forum.
