There is a phrase in Ireland that I just love: ‘Cop-On’

Cop On totally sums it up. Despite intelligence, education or experience, either you have it or you don’t. The most educated people in the world may lack basic cop-on.

The must uneducated person in the world may have very high levels of cop-on.

Cop-On is whether you get it or not.

For example: the person who just keeps on talking and talking when the entire room is bored and falling asleep: has got no cop-on.

The person, who can read the room and knows exactly what to say when, has cop-on.

It is not about education or even common sense, it is about if you just ‘get it or not’.

You either have cop-on or you don’t.

You can learn to have cop-on, but it usually takes a few bad experiences if you do not have it initially.

If someone is acting like a complete moron here they will tell the person to ‘cop yourself on, will ya’

Touché. Having worked and/or studied in these fields, I honestly believe that... there are no exceptions in any field! :yh_rotfl

Mensa Information

Actually, I qualified for Mensa under what is called "prior evidence"... my SAT scores were well above the unimpressive 1250 needed to qualify for Mensa back then. However, I still would have qualified as my IQ scores were also well within the top percentile. Getting back to the point though, any idiot could have easily scored a 1250 back in 1986 and I'm convinced that there are more than a few idiots who have somehow managed to infiltrate even Mensa. :yh_rotfl

Having said that... I'm certainly not immune from occasionally displaying a lack of intelligence. I don't believe that anyone is, really. :wah:

An individual could have a very low SAT score and have a very high IQ, they don't necessarily coordinate.
