Gas is at 3.52 a gal today. Time to stop driving again.

I may have to break down and buy a new bike this year. Mine is 15 years old and the tires do NOT like old fat white girls.

Have I mentioned I miss the shout box? I found aftrs smilies.... I would have thought that would have earned me the shout box back to **** and moan in...

$3.49 today. Oh, if the roads were safe here, I would ride bike, but its too far to go to work.

I have an old 27" Schwinn, it's from the '70s. I'm NOT paying $4 a gallon for gas. Unlike most people I planned ahead and it's in really good condition. I ride it a lot already weather permitting. I was listening to the radio last night and apparently it dawned on the government officials that the reason more people aren't taking mass transit is because the bus service in the burbs is pitifully inadequate, park and rides are filled beyond capacity.

I swear the WSDOT planners in are so stupid they should have corks on their forks. They chose to build the most expensive tunnel project in state history and they run a huge thoroughly corrupt ferry system while people are arriving at park and rides 3 hours early to find a place to park their car. Tacoma built a 2500 space parking garage for 40 million awhile back. That tunnel under the city (Seattles Big Dig) will cost us 6 to 14 BILLION!!!

How many buses and park and rides could we buy with that? The stupidity all around is incredible.

Gas down the street here was $3.47 to $3.73. ARCO or Shell.

$3.89 a gallon for unleaded Regular here in San we will be $4.00 a gallon by next week easy.

It was a scot that discovered how to crack oil and started the oil industry as we know it today and we actually export the stuff - boy are we fed up. Unfortunately you can't really do without a car where I live. Biking or using public transport are not really viable options for most people.

On a happier note you can now buy an 06 mercedes c class for less than the same year and mileage ford fiesta. Who wants a rear whel drive petrol guzzler?

Thanks for that, I googled to convert and found we even use different measurements for the simple gallon and litre......so was totally lost.

As for the North Sea, https://www.og.decc.gov.uk/information/ ... ctions.pdf shows where we are at the moment. We're importing around 25% of the oil we use. Bear in mind, "Gas" in the UK refers to material which is neither solid nor liquid. "Oil" is liquid. If it's solid it's called wax and we don't mine a lot of that.

As I understand it, North Sea Oil is too "refined" a substance to be turned into petrol (gas). They need the cruder stuff for that.

The smart majority if not all the UK car owners have cars that get 40mpg or better, not like the majority of gas guzzlers here in the US, that are lucky to get 15 to 20 mpg. It's a wash in that respect.

Remember that our 40 mpg would be 32 mpg on your "gallon" so, even with the difference in consumption we're still paying more per mile than you.

And that's comparing against your home grown heavy metal - I thought more and more Americans were buying imported motors because of the better fuel consumption.

When I worked on a forecourt I'd fill a tank with 40 litres of fuel and charge £1.30 for the whole tankful. I really don't know what you mean by "too much" or "ours is high now". What do you think ought to decide the price of fuel? How should the company who owns the forecourt choose what price to charge at its pumps?

Brent Blend is a combination of crude oil from 15 different oil fields in the North Sea. It is less “light” and “sweet” than WTI, but still excellent for making gasoline. It is primarily refined in Northwest Europe, and is the major benchmark for other crude oils in Europe or Africa. For example, prices for other crude oils in these two continents are often priced as a differential to Brent, i.e., Brent minus $0.50. Brent blend is generally priced at about a $4 per barrel premium to the OPEC Basket price or about a $1-2 per barrel discount to WTI.

Like I said we export the stuff yet have the highest prices in europe.

I have an aygo that does 50+ to the gallon. I do notice people seem to be driving a lot slower on the motorways nowadays.

That's more to do with the current Police obsession with speed as the be-all and end-all of road safety - you can tailgate and DUI all you like and unless you're speeding or involved in an accident dear Mr Plod couldn't care less.

Yes for the last couple years, the home grown automakers are now finally offering 30+ mpg cars. But with the nasty economy, many of the existing guzzler owners are not able to buy a new economy car.

to put it in perspective $30=£18.75 roughly. The tank on my car holds 35 litres, To fill it costs about £42 or near enough $70 and it is going up again soon.
