Also!, I highly respect your opinions. You often say very wise things. This was not one of them.

I won't ever "get used" to violence. I won't condone it. I won't ignore it. I won't be desensitized to it or try to understand it.

I abhor violence. I detest it. I despise it. For any cause or for any side.

I stood against it when I was a child. I thought I could fight violence with violence when I was a young man. In my middle age I dealt with it. Now that I am old, I understand that violence has never been a solution to any problem. In my life or the world's.

It has cost me friends, relationships, jobs, and homes. It has gained me blood, stitches, loss, heartbreak, and jail time. As far as I can tell, there is no good use for violence in any situation.

And to imply that, somehow, due to events, innocent people deserve violence is insulting to me.

Insulting, tragic, misguided, and misspoken.

Well, did the people of Germany deserve to be killed in 1000 bomber raids, the firestorms of cities like Dresden? Did the people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki deserve the bombs dropped on them?

23 people died in Iraq yesterday in various bombings, this happen what 3 or 4 times a week? How many people in Libya died today, Syria?

If Americans allow some cock up like Iraq to happen and not to mention the SUPPORT OF TERRORIST GROUPS to over throw legitimate functioning sectarian societies what the hell do we deserve?

Personally this attack did not surprise me, I certainly won't be surprised if the perp is some Muslim radical jihadist either acting alone or part of a group. I wouldn't be surprised if this individual had family members die by the hand of America what would the bookies say about the odds on that?

I feel no sympathy or anger about this incident. I feel for the children and their mother but not much else. I don't know if America deserves this or not but I sure a f**k think due to incompetence beyond description and the way we treat others in this world we should expect nothing less.

Maybe we should try to understand the fear of a mother in Iraq taking her child to the market or the mother standing in the bread line in Daraa Syria controlled by FSA "freedom fighters" if we want to figure out what is really going on here.

The UDA carrying out a revenge attack then? Actually I very much doubt an irish connection except perhaps copying the tactics. Wish I hadn't mentioned it now.

Seems odd. Who would stand to gain from such an attack? And why the finish line? Seems that it would do far more damage at the starting line, with 25,000 participants crammed together and a large crowd of onlookers. That's where Al Queda would do it, I would think. A suicide bomber would gain a lot of fame like that.

I wonder if they did not plan for the traffic, lack of access or the security in certain areas.

They may have gotten there later than expected. I had wondered about the same thing.

I've been watching the Boston lock down on TV this afternoon.

Have to say, as always, I am Impressed by Boston police.... when In doubt, shoot to kill.

Now, If this was England, for one we'd not be In lockdown. We'd all tut a little and sigh at all the bother and carry on shopping.

UK Police would make a nice appeal for the chaps to surrender themselves. After 6 weeks of someone trying to talk them round, they'd give In to their demands and change the constitution. They'd then be given bail awaiting trial while social services find them a nice council house and arrange for them to recieve benefit. On conviction, their sentance would be a year or two and upon release, Theresa May would spend millions of the tax payers money trying to deport them only for judges to rule that It would breach their ooooman rights.

Why don't you move to a country that suits you more?

From conversing with people from your country on the internet I've gained a high degree of respect for your culture and most of the citizenry over there. Your education system is obviously heads and shoulders above ours, and the care you all afford those less capable or furtunate is remarkable. Most Brits I've come across are quite happy and proud of their culture and country.

This is NYC, not Podunk PA.A new report released today by the Drug Policy Alliance and the Marijuana Arrest Research Project documents the astonishing number of hours the New York City Police Department has spent arresting and processing hundreds of thousands of people for low-level misdemeanor marijuana possession arrests over the last 11 years. The report finds that NYPD used approximately 1,000,000 hours of police officer time making marijuana possession arrests during Mayor Bloomberg's tenure. These are hours that police officers might have otherwise have spent investigating and solving serious crimes.

Prepared by Dr. Harry Levine of Queens College, the report also estimates that the people arrested by NYPD for marijuana possession have spent 5,000,000 hours in police custody over the last decade. Gabriel Sayegh: Marijuana Arrests in NYC Cost One Million Police Hours

Those are kids, mostly young black & latino, acquired during Stop & Frisk & have their lives ruined for carrying around a joint. If you are decently dressed & white, nothing happens. If you are decently dressed & white & are dealing pounds every day, nothing happens, even if there are complaints about marijuana smells possibly threatening the sale price of your coop or condo.

But the zeal with which you pursued this impresses me, so we'll meet in Podunk. You light up & I'll watch.

An observation....

As they 'apprehended' the suspect who was hiding in a small boat, a volley of gunfire could be heard.

There followed an influx onto the streets of citizens 'celebrating' by cheering, whooping and such like.

We don't do stuff like that in the UK........and we have had some practice.

I can fully understand the people of Boston taking to the streets..

There was every chance he could have another bomb with him or open fire on more Innocents. The entire city was In lock down for hours. The relief when he was caught must have been euphoric. A serious threat to life was In custody.

But then Britain has death parties when a sick, frail old lady dies at 89 years old....

I find it extremely amusing that the suspect is being cared for at a Beth Israel Hospital.
