Wayne Rooney is a doubt for the World Cup after fracturing a metatarsal bone in his right foot during Manchester United's 3-0 defeat at Chelsea.

I cant help it, i know its only a game, but i will be devastated if Wayne Rooney doesn't make it to the world cup, i'm deeply hurt at the thought of it :-1 :( :-1
Me too six, but is'nt it sad that we pin our hopes on one footballer?

but i was so looking forward to watching him play in the world cup,

it's very sad:(I cant but agree being a Man U follower myself, i just feel a little sorry for the rest of the squad, it must knock their confidence a little.

England fan's £1m insurance cover for World Cup trauma

A FOOTBALL fan has insured himself for £1 million against the trauma of seeing England knocked out of the early stages of World Cup.

---

Mr Hucker, of Ipswich, said some people might think the insurance policy was funny, but it was serious. He said England were always the "nearly men" and he had suffered trauma after England had been knocked out of every major competition.

"I feel very patriotic and very optimistic. To have psychological trauma and depression is something I don't want," he said.

If any of you need help in learning how to enjoy wallowing in misery at the crap performance of your national football team just ask a scottish supporter. It's not losing that matters it's being able to enjoy it.

Anyone know anything about this young 17 yr old that's been picked ?

The 1st England match is the on the 10th June....the day my son gets married. I'll have to keep sneaking off to my hotel room to see how they're getting on :D

I must admit I was surprised as well when I saw that Theo Walcott was included in our World Cup squad, but it just goes to show the fantastic potential that we have what with the likes of Aaron Lennon and Stewart Downing also being brought up to the senior level.

I do just hope though that if Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney aren't able to fully play at 100%, that too much pressure isn't put at these youngsters feets. Though what a stage to show off your skills huh!!

Oh indeed, it must be such a honour for them to be able to put on the shirt of their country, and wear it with pride in front of millions. I do believe that Michael Owen is due to play in some of the England B warm up matches as well to gain full fitness. Let's hope that he is able to get himself back to the high level of excellence that he is so easily capable of!!

I've seen Walcott play and he is brilliant, an all round sportsman-boy, and runs like the wind.

I've heard him talking on Radio5 Live. He sounds very grounded and intelligent and I hope he does really well. We need a breath of fresh air on the England team.

He hasnt even played a first team game in the Premiership. From reserve team player to International :-3 I think its a risk we cant afford. I hope to be proved wrong.

And Owen Hargreaves ?? give me a break

Young Lennon deserves a shot though

Dwain Chambers...it'll all be over in 10 seconds :D

Chelsea star hurt at Mayfair club

Chelsea footballer Wayne Bridge has been injured in a disturbance at a club in London's West End during a night out with fellow Premier League players.

The 25-year-old, who has just been selected for the England World Cup squad, suffered a cut and bruise to his face at the Embassy Club in Mayfair.

An ambulance was called at 0200 BST on Monday but Bridge refused treatment.

Three men were arrested, one on suspicion of assault and two accused of using racist language.

All three have since been bailed.

The defender is thought to have been attending a private party with Chelsea and Arsenal players to celebrate the end of the season.

Bridge's team-mate John Terry was also at the club but his agent said the Chelsea captain had left before the trouble started. Over the last year, Bridge has overcome a virus, an ankle fracture and being surplus to requirements at Chelsea although he spent a successful loan spell at Fulham. On Monday, Sven-Goran Eriksson proved Bridge's international career is also back on track when he selected him as left-back for his provisional 23-man England squad.

I think that by the time we have played through the initial group stage, (and of course gotten through :) ) then we will have a great idea of how the rest of the tournament will fare. I mean if we aren't able to beat teams, and put on a good performance against the likes of Trinidad and Tobago, then we really will be struggling to beat the likes of Brazil or even Portugal later on.

Let's hope that the team does us proud, and all of those youngsters make a positive impact.
