So, yesterday, oranges are .39 per pound. Today, $1.29 per!

A few days ago, artichokes are maybe .49 or .59 each. Today, try

$2.59 for ONE ARTICHOKE!!

All due to the Califrornia freeze!

The place to watch, in the US, is http://www.bls.gov/news.release/cpi.nr0.htm

The Food Price Index rise for the twelve months to November 2006 is 2.3%. Any long-term effects of the storms will show up there in a couple of months as a blip.

The freeze was terrible - my grapefruit tree looks pitiful, leaves are dropping.

I've been eating my grapefruit since November - delicious ruby red. I'll have to wait & see the damage as the tree is shedding. It's a large old wonderful fruit producing tree - I have @ 300 grapefruit on it still.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.

This freeze will increase all prices for crops - its terrible

My lime tree and my grapefruit tree are obviously damaged due to the freeze. It's painful to see. I can't imagine the feelings of the citrus growers!

Enjoy your salads now ladies.

They just announced a head of lettuce will triple in price.

I'll miss my salads - I won't pay that price for a head of lettuce or spinach - $3.00 and higher..

We've the same issue... however I do not think it's down to "working mothers

being unable to afford...".
