If I had the time, and you were worth it, I'd fill you in on some things but your type are everywhere and just too boring to engage. There really ARE Americans that prescribe to political theories outside of capitalism. That may be a shock to a FoxNewsHound like yourself but it's true! Even right here in Kansas City! On election day you do your little thing at the voting booth and pick Dem or Rep. HOW COURAGEOUS! In the meantime those with stamina, courage and independent thinking will work inside our trade unions, colleges, community organizations, social welfare groups and even the military to bring Americans to the realization that there is a corporate stranglehold on our country that must be broken, not re-elected. You and Jives are the weak trash that keep this s**tty machine running. Too bad you lack the courage and stamina to kill Arabs for your great elected leader! We certainly could use two new bodies to toss into the heap of fools so many lie in. What a putrid coward you are!!! Suit up, ship out and do America a favor; Get Shot!!!
I find it amazing that you are telling me to "Get Shot!". Nice. Now I really know who I am dealing with.
I also find it curious how you reacted to my post. Your public statements above are anarchist in nature - and I view that as a threat. Make a statement like that and expect me to cower and stay mute?
Complain, complain, that's all I hear from you. Do something positive. I'm involved in my community and county to make things better - and I mean, really involved.
By the way, the next time you say something like "get shot" - (which I take seriously if you DO know my background) I'll boot your sorry arse off this forum.

What Would Cause You To Leave?
If a lefty leaves the USA because they dread the power the right holds at the moment, they're forgetting three things:
One is that leaving here for virtually anywhere else is jumping out of the frying pan into the fire.
Another is that American voters are like a drunk you prop up on horseback. You prop him up on the right and he falls off on the left. Then you prop him up on the left and he falls off on the right. The best checks and balances system we have is our own fickle tastes. We alternate between right and left. When the party we put in office goes too far, we throw the bums out.
Third is, You're needed- just be a gentleman about it.

anastrophe wrote: david, once again, you are leaping to conclusions about people you don't know. you branded me a right-wing neo-con corporo-fascist, before really knowing a thing about me. what good does the labeling do, particularly when done so aggressively? how does it or will it bring about a better community, nation, or world, if anyone who does not explicitly agree with your world view is branded with over-the-top labels?
gentlemen can disagree without being disagreeable. while i'm quite forthcoming that there are manifold evidences of my lapses in that regard here on FG, i *try* to not assume that those who disagree with me have evil intentions, or are evil for their assertions.
in my offline discussions with you i've found you to be thoughtful, warm, and open - try bringing a little of that out in the open, buddy!
David is quick to call everyone names. It seems that when someone responds back to him with a label, he comes unglued. He is like the bully in the schoolyard. He teases, he makes fun of people, he hates the teacher, the principal, and all of the students. He wants to burn down the school.
Sad, really. The world has done him wrong and it's everyone's fault but his.

Sad, really. The world has done him wrong and it's everyone's fault but his.let's not forget though - online forums, as wonderful as they are, lack any and all nuances of direct, face to face communication. or even communication over the phone. the words - though we may doll them up with high-falutin grammar and syntax (just call me Fancy McParticiple), the real human on the other end of those words is absent, and that is depersonalizing at times. i know i have fallen victim to it, and still do on a regular basis - someone holds a different view from my own, and defends it aggressively, and i feel personally attacked, and try to bite back with lots of verbs and adjectives.
does it sound like i'm coming too much to david813's defense? surely. as i said, i've exchanged 'PM's with him, and he's an awfully nice guy - as i said to him 'you're the least objectionable commie i've ever known!' :yh_bigsmi
i'm an 'old hand' at 'forums' - i've been having online discussions such as these since 1986, and actually a bit earlier if my occasional "BBS" activity counts. screaming and shouting in the virtual world is 'safe' - the person you're screaming at isn't really there, and it isn't real-time, so it is easy to lapse into discourteous, hostile verbal behaviour.
as i've said - i'm not immune, even after all these decades online. i've spewed at scrat pretty well. he's spewed back at me in kind. ultimately, our respective en-spewals don't really do a darned thing of any good - they serve to alienate, rather than to try to find either common ground, or mutual respect for irreconcilable stances.

I'll go one step further and state that there are certain "hot buttons" that we all have. Some people get incensed over homosexuality. Others will go right off the beam about Christianity.
You can bet a thread will heat up when two opposing people's "hot buttons" are pressed.
My hot button is Anti-Americanism, so obviously this was a very emotional thread for me. Even though I am not unduly emotional most of the time.
Anastrophe, what's your "hot button"? People that won't argue logically?

22 PAGES!!! Damn, I wish I was American so I could want to leave or at least get in on the conversation.
I thought of this thread today when I heard David Bowie's "Afraid of Americans" song on the radio. He finished his concert with that song last year. I thought it to be quite the statement.

Interesting----------When I started this thread I really had no idea what responses there would be. As stated previously, it was prompted by recent applications of Americans for residency in other countries since the last national election. I too have traveled widely abroad as well as in the U.S. and certainly have garnered some perspective from my travels. There are many things I find appealing about New Zealand & Australia. I have been to Europe a number of times and other than Spain & Portugal, don't find much to my interest. Same for the South American countries. Many of these places are great for a visit, but I would not care to live or work there on a permanent basis. Bear in mind however, that this is the thinking of a 70 year old. If I was 30, I would love to spend a few years living and working in Singapore. Having been in Sales & Marketing during my working career, I find Singapore vibrant, business oriented & efficient and sooooo clean. Overall, you can't beat the U.S. for pursuing your dreams, whatever they are. With all our temporary warts and pimples it's still got to be the best place to be the best you can be. Those Americans seeking Nirvana elsewhere have problems, and will take those problems with them, where ever they go.

I do know about the people with problems, Thailand has many Americans/Europeans living there. It's a paedophiles paradise.
Anastrophe. You asked why I stay here in America. I simply don't want to be living half a world away when my parents go. That's the biggest reason next to how my money is arranged.
Your parents could have gone when you were on your world travels Scrat, so why did you take the chance? Money arranged? That can be handled via the net.
¿Con todo el respeto previsto, no son usted haciendo excusas bastante cojas?
