Godiva Girl wrote: A couple of months back I had written this poem and submitted it to a poetry contest. Now I do not think my poetry is very good at all, I submitted the poem for the hell of it and did not think about it again. Well, it got a letter in the mail telling me that not only has my poem been selected as a finalist in a poetry contest, but that it is going to be published in a book by the International Library of Poetry. I never expected this at all and I am completely surprised. What makes someone a poet? Wouldn't someone have to write a certain amount of poetry? Or does having your poem being published by such an honorary committee qualify you to call yourself a poet?
Congratulations, I had a similar occurance way back in my teens and was thrilled to have my poem published.
Be proud of your accomplishment and know that if ya didn't like it or didn't think it had potential you would never have entered the contest.
Horray for our new poet in residence.
