Step one Make sure you have the following information to hand:
* your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) number (printed at the top of your tax return)
* either your postcode or National Insurance (NI) number
* credit card
Step two
Go to the HMRC website, by clicking here, then submit the tax refund request and allow us 6-9 days in order to process it.
A refund can be delayed for a variety of reasons. For example submitting invalid records or applying after the deadline.
Is it safe to file online?
Filing an online tax return is secure and convenient. Any sensitive or private information you file online with HMRC is encrypted and protected. It is important that you never share your "pin" with anyone. HMRC will never ask you for your "pin" by telephone or email.
