After reading this, rereading it and reading it outloud to 7 people from 9 different nationalities the general consensus is that this seems like a personal attack.

One thing I find helpful is to read the 2nd 1/3 of the thread 1st. Then the last 1/2 of the 1st 1/3. After that I might make some toast then read part of another thread.

It all seems to come together somehow.

I'd agree with you there. There is also a cultural gulf as well in that UK posters have more of a tendency to pisstake while US posters assume everything is personal.

One additional comment, I agree that things can be misunderstood and that they can be taken wrong. But, sometimes the poster knows they are putting attitude in their statement but will hide behind the "you misunderstood me" theory. I try and read between the lines and have an idea of what they're "really" trying to say. That's not always a good thing.

Perhaps you start out with that assumption and as a consequence find the "attitude" because you are looking for it. It's very easy to assume passionate disagreement is the same as passionate dislike.

No, I don't go looking for attitude, if I did, I wouldn't have to look hard. Like I said, some like being misunderstood and play on it. Giving them two ways to be read, thus, getting their subconscious thoughts out while playing the naive, "I didn't mean it that way" . It gets a little monotanous.

No offence but you are reinforcing my point. You don't look for attitude but you wouldn't have to look hard to find it?

I agree that the senses of humor between the US and UK differ greatly and it is sometimes hard to decipher.

At this point if I were to say that's because Americans don't have a sense of humour and they can't even spell it properly. Would that be having an attitude or pulling your leg?

Let us all take a moment to acknowledge that we are all differant....from different nationalities, different backgrounds, different faiths...so we can have a tendency to respond to a statement or observation differently.

That said,we are all brothers and sisters, atleast on this Forum.

Thank God we are not clones. How boring this place would be!

I didn't have time to read the whole thread. It's something about being thorough, right? That's me, through and through!
