Bitch

Post by RedGlitter »

Over in another forum I go to, some guy wrote a ridiculous dissertation on women and titled it "The Trouble with P*ssy." The ladies let him have it in no uncertain terms, saying how disrespectful it is. They were offended.

So I was thinking. When did the word "b*tch" become an acceptable word to use for women? You've seen those t shirts that say "B*TCH" and it reads "Babe In Total Control of Herself?" And you have probably gotten that spam email that says when someone next calls you a bitch, say thank you?" WTH? I am told we're "reclaiming the word" now. I for one never owned it. I even hear men referring to women as bitches. I can think of few things that make me see red like that.

So what is your take? Are you a bitch? Or am I just old fashioned?

Said jokingly, I have no problem with it. Said out of anger, you'll see what a bitch is.

i think it depends how it is meant really

like sexy bitch = good

nasty bitch = bad

clever bastard =good

bald boring bastard = not so good

My god Jimbo your a clever bastard :wah::wah:

Your right and I feel maybe it is all in the deliverance of the word...Text wise, it can totally be blown out of proportion because you dont hear the intent meant.

I think sometimes a group will take terms that are derogatory towards them and "own" the word so it loses power. That is my assumption with the word bitch and how women have taken to using it. The word rarely has any punch to it anymore when used as an insult and the comeback is broadcast on those shirts that were mentioned.

Of course, being hurt by a word or sentence is dependent upon caring about who is speaking.

the word is sexist ... crude ... derogatory and the mere fact that in some circles it

is no longer considered to be so ... does not make it any less insulting towards

women ...

Sure it does. Words mean what we decide they mean. That's why PC terms keep getting changed. People think changing the word changes the feeling behind the definition; it doesn't. But changing the feeling makes changing the word unnecessary because the word loses its power.

Yankee and Christian used to be derogatory words.

I would take offense....I am old fashioned too I guess....but like others have said, the term has been used in different contexts....I've joked with friends and they've called me a bitch and visa-versa, it was an understanding that we were only joking. I believe if a guy was complaining about women and using the term to describe a female, especially one in particular....then again, people like that sometimes need to just be ignored, so they go away.

Women are bitchy and predictable ...men are not and that's the key to knowing the truth.

I think Red said it best, between friends in a joking manner can be acceptable, but I'm old fashioned too. Come to thinnk of it, I'm just plain OLD! :-2 I have issues with many "foul" terms used these days, especially toward women. I'm one that still opens car doors for ladies and whoever happens to be right behind me when I get to a door. My parents were big on teaching manners, and kindness. Its just part of life for me, an instinct now I guess. I even have a problem when I see a man get out of a vehicle and start walking into a store while his wife is left to open the door and then trail behind, To me this says "you are not my equal woman" I was taught to hold the door, and open the door for ladies not because they are inferior, but out of respect for them. The mo I think of how thymes have changed, the mo disgusted I am in people. And I especially feel sorry for the females since they are trashed like dirt if they are not a "10":mad: I recall a trip to the clothing store with my wife about 8 years ago, and when we arrived in the parking lot many of the store employees, mostly female were outside enjoying a break. I got out of the car, walked around and opened the door for my wife, she got out and I closed the door behind her. For this I received a kiss, and an applause from the store clerks who were outside. Have we strayed so far from being gentlemen that now we are spectacles, an oddity? Good grief Charlie Brown, be a man! JMO

guess i must be pretty old fashioned too then dew dude ... cos i can't see myself ever calling any woman "bitch" as a term of endearment or even in a joking manner ...

i was brought up to respect women and if my father or mother ever hear me call any woman a bitch i'll get my ass kicked big time!

i certainly wouldn't like it if i was called a "dog" by a woman ...

though come to think of it ... i have been called worse things than that in my time!

Someone once called me a bitch, I told them to try harder to insult me the next time. The word is used so much now that if I hear it, I don't even blink an eye. :o
